I have asked this in other threads, but I think it needs its own. I see a lot of issues with bricked iPods and other issues with 2.0. I am afraid to try it, and not sure it's worth the risk or $. Anybody have an opinion either way?
my ipod updated fine, and i love being able to use applications. The new features for the standard apps are good aswell. Not sure why peoples are being bricked...
**** yeah its worth it. for the internet radio tuner and Remote function alone. the tuner's ropey though still a remarkable app. i'd never use my PC to access radio so this is great
Seems to me that you have to pay £6 (UK) to then be able to pay again to get games etc on your ipod touch. Feels like a rip off to be honest, would be better if you got some decent games for free as part of the upgrade payment.
Definitely worth it for me. I had no problems at all installing, although it took quite some time since I have a 32GB ipod with lots of content. Also, I am using a Mac so I don't know if the Windows install has some issues.
Not really interested in games myself, but there are lots of other applications available. File Magnet is worth the price of admission by itself - lets you drag and drop files to store and view on the iPod using wifi (but only works on Macs with 10.5). The Bloomberg app is terrific for stocks/portfolios/business news and it's free.
All the problems folks are posting scares me! Is Apple responding to anyone about this? I just want to know if they are responsive to this issue - I have had good luck contacting them in the past.
Exactly!! Looking at all those threads I am putting off my upgrade.
In India over here there aint no Apple Store to go and cry to... so I'd better wait for all this to get resolved. 😐
I avoided the January Update because I didn't like Apple's decision to charge for it. However, the 2.0 update is well worth the expense because it provides security patches, all of the January applications, and access to
free apps in the App Store.
Hi - I basically ditto inandoutofgrace.... I got my Touch as a birthday present in March (thanks to my family 🙂 ) so it had the January update included but for $10 the 2.0 update is pretty cheap fun. I haven't had any problems so far and while I've downloaded only free apps, I've had some fun with them already and I look forward to seeing what else comes out for free/cheap in the future.
I used to be hesitant to download updates (such as for OS, etc.) because I'd read through all of the threads of people with problems. But I realized one day that most people don't have any problems -- we only see posts of the ones with issues/questions. I'm not all that tech savvy so problems with my computers or iPods scare me. So far I haven't had any major issues <knocks on wood>.
It is definitely worth it. The number of free apps is enormous (although they really arn't free because your paying for the upgrade), even if a lot of them are bad...but there are a lot of good ones, especially the remote app, tap tap revenge (probably the best free app), ebay, myspace, etc. The upgrade is worth it.
For the extreme gamer, I bought 5 really good games that have great graphics worth the price of only 1 Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3 game.
This is great I just got my touch and now sooner does it show up does Apple want 10.00 more from me. Any idea if there is a free upgrade plan for iPods just bought?
Thanks folks!
1. The ability to purchase third-party applications through iTunes AppStore or from the device itself. This feature transforms your iPod Touch from a advanced media player into a very powerful, touch based pocket computer.
2. The support for 'push' updates (MobileMe)
Even if you are not interested in MobileMe I would have a quick look through the iTunes AppStore there are quite a few free applications you mind think compelling enough to spend the $10 for the update.
You are afraid to upgrade? Why? Do you not cross a street because someone somewhere got hit buy a car and so you might too? Do you not drive a car because you might get in an accident just like some others have? People have choked on the their food they were eating. Have you stopped eating because it might happen to you?
