iPod touch 2.0 update won't install

iPod touch 2.0 update won't install

Yesterday I downloaded the iPod touch 2.0 update but clicked "Download Only" and it fully downloaded but now its just sitting in the "iPod Software Update" folder with updates 1.1.3 & 1.1.4. Since I currently have a dial-up connection the update took about 12 hours to download, is there a way to install it on the iPod touch without re-downloading the update?

Dell Dimension E520, Windows Vista, iTunes 7.7

On a Mac, you can launch iTunes, mount your iPod, select it in the Devices list and then hold down the Alt key while you click the "Check for Update" button. You can then navigate your hard disk to the update file.

Worth a try with Vista too, I guess...

Thank you very much HD I really appreciate your help, I tried it and it checked for an iTunes update then when it went to check for an iPod update there was an error.

What did the error message say? (Please include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

I downloaded the 2.0 update fine but when it finishes and starts to put it on my touch, when it is about half way done it says:
"There was a problem downloading the iPod software to the iPod. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."

I do not know how to check my network settings or connection or even what they are. HELP ASAP!!! I'M GONNA NEED IT ON VACATION TOMORROW

My best suggestion would be to install the 1.1.4 firmware due to many 2.0 bugs. If you need a link for the file i can give it to you.

I'm not getting the error anymore, I hold shift while pressing either Restore or Update and when I click the update file I get "An unknown error occurred (1403)." but I tried re-downloading the update about 10 times but while the download is in progress iTunes times out. Can Apple email me the update file or can I take it to an Apple Store to be updated?

Hi, I purchased the 2.0 update 2 days ago and everytime I try to download it I get the same error message, I've checked my connection and I'm sure there is nothing wrong with my network. What's up with this? Can anyone help?!?!?

Hi,
I have a similar problem. Yesterday I wanted to upgrade from 1.1.5 to 2.0. The file was downloaded, unpacked and copied to the iPod. Then something was checked and the result was that the old version had to be restored (no error message). The downloaded file is not in the ipod software updates folder. The funny thing is that iTunes 7.7 now tells me that the 2.0 image for the ipod touch cannot be downloaded because it needs iTunes 7.7. What does that mean? Reinstalling iTunes 7.7 didn't help.

Hi, I just download the software for my ipod touch, and when i try to install it, it doesnt work, itunes show me an error and automatically close the itunes 😟 😟 😟
