iTunes Unable to Sync Google Contact Groups?

I have not tried this yet, but found your post looking for a way to sync only a group.

Yep, same behavior here. PC is running Windows Vista. I've updated iTunes to 7.7 and the iPhone is a 3G with firmware 2.0.

I can select Google Contacts, then configure with Gmail ID and password. It does not populate any of the groups I have in Gmail Contacts. The option is low-lighted and cannot be selected.

Syncing with the iPhone moves all contacts over, which I then had to repair because of Google's current contact handling. Google is in the process of changing the default contact handling where anyone that you reply to is automatically added to the contacts. See more about this here:

Folks over at Howard Forums are also reporting this same behavior of missing groups within Yahoo.

Yep same here running Windows XP SP3 and also on Macbook with OSX 10.5.4. New 3G iphone, i had to do a workaround of exporting groups from gmail to .vcf file and import into Outlook which i dont otherwise use

Same issue here. I configured sync with google contacts in iTunes 7.7, however a sync keeps empty contact list on the iPhone side. Don't see any list of groups either.

Having the exact same issue; doesn't appear the iPhone uses the group from Google Contacts. Had to work around by exporting out of Gmail and then importing to Address Book.

Would love to see a fix for this issue.

Hey Dan,

Try Resetting the Sync History in iTunes, goto Edit> Preferences> Syncing> Reset Sync History.

Then try syncing the Google contacts as described here:

The problem still exists. I am unable to pick groups from Google Contacts to sync. It is either an all or nothing sync. Further, hitting the configure button does nothing for me. It accepts my gmail login and password but the returns me to the iTunes page. Anyone have ideas on fixing this?

tried resetting the sync history as you suggested, this doesn't solve the problem. 'Sync contacts' is checked, when 'Google contacts' is selected. When I hit 'Configure...' and enter login details- a progressbar flashes briefly and disappears. Window underneath doesn't display any groups, I can only select 'All contacts'. Hitting 'Sync' displays 'Synching contacts with ... iPhone' for two seconds. However no contacts are synchronized.

Note that I'm using Vista and iTunes 7.7. Haven't tried sync on a Mac yet.
Looks like a bug to me, hope Apple will fix this.

It synces all of your "suggested contacts" which added 600 email addresses for me, including about 100 "noreply@...". What a mess. Please fix this apple, google, or whomever is responsible...

Having the same issue.
When I click the "Configure..." button for "Sync Google Contacts", I am asked to enter my password for Google. Nothing happens after that.

I was hoping to be able to tell iTunes to only sync contacts one way, from the iPhone to Google, since two-way sync is adding garbage to my iPhone Contact list.

By the way, all the garbage addresses that I've replied to in Gmail go into the "Suggested Contacts" group there. iTunes is syncing this, along with my other gmail contacts, to the iPhone. This should not be happening. If I wanted the suggested contacts to be part of my list of contacts, I'd go ahead and add them to it in gmail. Bad design, Apple.
