Getting iPod Touch to Connect to WiFi After 2.0 Upgrade

Hi All

Downloaded and upgraded my iPod Touch to Software version 2.0 today and since then I cannot get it to connect to my home WiFi network (uses WPA security). It connected perfectly well before the upgrade. The only way I can have it connect is to disable the security function on the router, which I am not prepared to do on an ongoing basis.

Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance!

Similar problem here. My Ipod Touch worked perfectly on my home wireless network on 1.1.4. Upgraded to 2.0, and it imported the WEP settings and such. It gets a DHCP address, but drops packets like crazy when pinging it.

First I went into the network settings, told it to forget the network, and rebooted. That didn't work. I've even done a complete General -> Reset > Reset Network settings, rebooted, and entered the WEP key again by hand. It gets an address, but doesn't work. I'm using a standard Netgear 802.11b wireless router with basic WEP 128 encryption. Nothing exotic here.

Of interesting note, the router sits about 5 feet away from me, but it shows up as 2/3 "wireless bars" on the signal strength. It was full strength pre-2.0. And when I reset the network settings, before I put the WEP ket in, the strength was full strength. Put the WEP key and it went back to 2/3 bars.

If you're lucky, occasionally some data will pass. Like, the weather for New York City loaded in the new integrated weather application. But if I go to add Syracuse, it never validates it. Likewise, if I add a stock or pretty much do anything, nothing Internet related works.

Nothing has changed on the router end, and the 3 other wifi devices I have attached are working perfectly. And yes, I've rebooted the router and the cable modem.

Sounds to me like they broke WiFi in 2.0. I'm so glad I paid $399 plus an additional $10 for the update to have a pretty MP3 player with no Internet connectivity. Thanks!

While your system may be screwed up, I have to STRONGLY disagree with you. While my IT worked fairly well with my home router (Apple Extreme), there were several other hot spots where I could not get a connect (Unable to connect to server error). After the 2.0 installation on Saturday, I took my IT to my doctor's office where I have never be able to connect and my IT immediately locked on to his free unprotected system.

While I don't have any benchmarks, I would have to say web pages are loading around 50% quicker.

I did the standard installation with no tricks. It did take a long time (well over an hour). Best 10 bucks I ever spent. IMHO, 2.0 is certainly not a piece of crap.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Confirming that I have the exact same problem. I upgraded my iPod touch to 2.0 on Friday and immediately had problems connecting to my home wifi router, which is an older Linksys router supporing 802.11b only, and worked perfectly before the upgrade. I also get only two bars of signal, even standing right in front of it, and 99% of my attempted internet connections are timing out. I turned off my WEP security and this didn't change anything, with the additional twist that when my iPod first detected signal while unsecured it does show 3 bars, but once I select my network, it drops down to 2 immediately. And won't connect.... Mail or browser or app store, doesn't matter. Everything else (notebooks, Mac mini) connects correctly. Having paid my $10, I've now wasted hours doing all the rest of the usual drill to no result (various resets). I'm not technical, but it's quite clear to me that I've run into some bug in the new 2.0 software related to wifi. I wonder if it might have to do with having a b-only router, or I notice that my router's firmware is from 2005 (that is the most recent/last version). Perhaps the new software is somehow incompatible with a 3-year-old Linksys router/access point?

I called Applecare yesterday and explained the problem to them. Some guy who could barely speak English explained that, following the upgrade, my wireless router is incompatible with my iPod Touch. No matter how many times I explained that I have only had this problem since upgrading the iPod software, he insisted that he was unable and unwilling to help, and suggested that I contact the router manufacturer in order to upgrade its firmware and/or software.

Apple are seemingly not taking responsibility for this problem which, in my opinion, constitutes a glitch in iPod Touch SW version 2.0. Not impressed at all. Since my first Apple product purchase I have seen the level of service SEVERELY drop off. Disgraceful!

Im having the same problem as some of you guys. My Wifi is greyed out, so its not even getting as far as not finding a network. its like the wifi adapter inside the ipod is switched off. This all worked fine until the update. What gets me is i bought 2 itouches and updated them both too 2.0, Mine is knackered and my wifes works fine??? Come on Apple a little info would go along way. It has to be the 2.0 update. On another forum some people were suggesting apple was advising them to upgrade there routers firmware??? but if the wifi is greyed out on the itouch then it has nothing to do with that?? Very disappointed in apple. My first and i suspect my last apple product!!

Update: my iPod touch with 2.0 connects fine on the office wifi router, which is a newer NetGear model. But continues timing out on older Linksys access point at home. Reading someone else's post about how they are having the problem with a newer NetGear router...the mystery deepens. But judging by the posts here, the phenomenon definitely exists, there is a problem.

That happend to me as well I thought that something went wrong in the Update but all you have to do is press the Sleep/Wake Button and Hold it and Press at the Same time the Hold Button all at the Same time and wait for the Apple Logo and then Let go. It worked for Me.
But one thing that happened to me is that When I type in My Password it shows one Letter or Number? I dont want it to show any part of my password@@
