MP3 Burning Error 4310

I need more information about your hardware configuration. Run the iTunes Help menu -> Run CD Diagnostics... command and post the results here.

Error 4310 is "Illegal SCSI command request reported by CD recorder" and this is usually a driver issue or a firmware issue.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have run a test burn on my Roxio and Windows Media and they work fine. I was able to only burn one CD and my next attempt produced this. I have also done a disk cleanup and defrag in case it was slowing things down. Would appreciate your help here too. Thanks.

That's all the CD diagnostics that you're getting? There's not more text in the window? There should be more text.

You have a really old copy of Roxio and a driver from Oak Technologies that is, well, 10 years old. Let's try a quick experiment of taking both of those out of the loop temporarily and see if that helps the problems.

On the start menu, click on "run". in the space it provides enter "regedit" without the quotes. This will open the registry editor.

Find the heading HKEY LOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SYSTEM inside it. Click on it.
Find the heading CurrentControlSet. Click
Find the heading Control. Click
Find the heading Class. Click
Find the heading that begins {4D36E965- Click

Select the lower filter key, right click, select "rename". Rename the key to "_LowerFilters".

Select the upper filter key, right click, select "modify". Select the contents of the text edit box and save that string somewhere in a text file in Notepad or something. You need to save it so that when you're done, you can get the upper filters back to their original state. Then edit the text in the dialog to just say "GEARAspiWDM" followed by a carriage return, the carriage return is important.

Then reboot, and see what iTunes does.

To get back to your previous state, go back into regedit and rename the lower filters key back to "LowerFilters" and modify the upper filters back to the text string that you saved in Notepad. Reboot.

This is really odd. Why aren't you guys getting the bottom 2/3rds of your CD diagnostics? Why are your CD diagnostics being cut short?

Let's start with the obvious. Let's go to the support page for your computer. Get the download labeled "Intel 800 Series Integrated Chipset", "SCI IEEE 1394 Controller". And if you see a firmware update for your drive (which the bottom half of your computer diagnostics should tell me the model / manufacturer), snag that do.

Also go to the nVidia site and get the latest video driver.

I downloaded and attempted an install of the Intel Chipset and this is the message I got back. "The current operating system supports the Intel chipset devices on your system. No INF update needed.

Could not find the Controller so could you please direct me to where to get that.

Do I continue with the update of the nvidia site regardless?

You're not removing the nVidia driver, you're just making sure you have the latest one. So, you shouldn't see any change at all.

Don't worry about the Firewire driver update if you can't find it. You need to click the "Show All" button to get everything displayed on the Dell page. Because I don't have all your CD diagnostics, I can't tell if you're using internal drives or external.

I have updated the NVidia driver and the Controller thanks to the help of a Dell rep. Same thing. Here is the info as shown.

This is obviously not the cause of the problem.

Any way of removing the Itunes program and reinstall without losing all my music I uploaded and purchased from Apple? I personally think this has to do with the upgrade.

I have also just discovered that I cannot import any music either. Anyone know who I need to reach for tech support. Surely there must be heaps of folk like me struggling with this. Thanxs.

Can I drive somebody crazy here by saying that I can copy my tracks from CD to my Itunes program. Just cannot transfer.

...and so, to answer myself and anyone else with this problem. This is basically a buffer underrun issue. You will have to set your burn speed to about a 4x to 6x depending on the your computer. Most burner programs tell you this except this one. Go to edit, preferences, advanced, burning, and change the speed for fastest possible to 4x or 6x. It works except it is rather slow! Apple, you need to reconfigure this to allow for a faster burn speed.

Sorry to pop in here, but I'm getting the same error. And it only started happening since I did the update to the newest version of ITunes. I have tried different discs, lowering the burn speed to 8x and still get the same thing. Its ruined 3 bucks worth in CD-Rs, not to mention I have about 5 CDs worth of music sitting on my computer that I can not burn. I haven't had any problem whatsoever when I used the last version of ITunes nor have I had any problem burning CDs in other applications. I also did a Windows Update and I have the latest driver. I need help please, Apple customer support is absolutely worthless. Please be gentle, I am not a tech geek so break it down in real people terms.

By the way, I am running Windows XP, I have a Sony VAIO desktop.
