Unable to Import from JVC Camcorder GR-DVL9500 using 1394 cable to MacBook

Hi, I hooked my JVC Camcorder up, just as instructed, with a firewire cable from the DV in/out jack of the camcorder running to the firewire input on the MacBook. I brought up the iMovie and went to the menu to import the video on the camera. The box to import came up and I clicked automatic and IMPORT. As far as I can tell everything was going OK. I could see that on the camera the tape was rewound to the beginning, "uploaded" and rewound. I clicked DONE on the iMovie box.

After that, however, the movie never shows up. I had named it so as to be able to identify it, even though there is little on iMovie, and when I click on the name the response is that there is no movie matching the name. I've, tried the whole process over and over again, but nothing changes.

This is not a new JVC model, but I was able to move video from it to my PC without all this kind of trouble, so I don't know what is happening here. As I have dozens of good video DV videos to put on the Mac, I really hope that this is not the final answer.

All I can think of is that Mac might need some additional drivers or software, but that is a wild guess and I would not know where to find it anyway.

Your help is appreciated

(PS: I am sorry that I could not search for this topic, as search is "disabled." I too would not be surprised if the new iphone sales generated this as the retail store was packed with a long line outside at closing (9:30 PM) Saturday night. The online store assistant could not even get on her system to process an order for me that same night, and the iTunes was disabled this Sunday afternoon.)

I went to try this and could not bring up the page that allows me to apply automatic or manual. So I have to now find out what I am doing wrong. I know I saw that page before and always picked Automatic. For now, no import though of my videos.

Maybe someone can review for me how to bring up that page that allows me to pick automatic or manual copy from the camcorder to the computer? Thank you.

Just for others use, I went to the Apple retail store. Eventually, the one-on-one trainer was able to bring the video up by starting both the play on the camcorder and the import on the screen of the iMovie application. The MANUAL setting must be used, as said earlier.

Now, if anyone could actually see my movie it would be great. Unfortunately, while we sent it to the Me.com Web gallery or whatever it is called now, none of the invited people can view the movie.

Oh my, this is a long process.

It has been awhile since I asked this. My video camera broke down so I had to pay $350 and wait a long time for it to be fixed. Since then I have been able to import my video from mini cassettes. Importing does require manual import as the automatic setting will not work.

Now I have the hard job of learning to make movies and slide shows.

Thanks for all who tried to help.
