iPhone 3G played through MINI iPod Adapter on Saturday; however, on Sunday

I have a BMW adapter in the glove compartment of my MINI Cooper S 2003. It was installed by the factory. It worked with my iPod photo, my iPod Touch, and my iPhone 3G on Saturday. Today it stopped working. It may have not charged the iPhone 3G on Saturday, but it played through the stereo and it sounded better than the iPod classic. On Sunday it stopped being recognized when connected to dock port on the iPhone 3G. My IPod classic still works and same with the Touch. I tried it in Airplane mode, plugging it in prior/after starting the card. I am at wits end. Please help.

I have a brand new (2 weeks old) 2008 Mini Cooper with the factory installed iPod Adapter, the iPhone 3G plays fine and I can see all the songs on the OBC--but it does not charge. (It also goes into Airplane mode).

Strangely enough, the iPod Touch works perfectly and charges while I drive. I don't have the Bluetooth option installed on my Mini, I wish I did.

My 2007 Mini Cooper S does not charge the ipod 3g. This is VERY upsetting!!! This use to all work well with my ipod and original iphone. now that I upgraded to the 3g, it seems I need to invest in totally new accessories???!!!
Bose SoundDock in my home also doesn't charge the ipod 3g. There better bet a solution/adapter coming soon because I hate the fact I invested so much around the ipod/iphone and now the 3g is not compatible???

I recommend everyone informing your accessory dealership to report to apple. AND call Apple to let them know so that they understand how upsetting this is with everyone that will eventually have to buy new accessories or clumsy workarounds...

the cable is in the compartment above the glove compartment. I would have to take the dashboard apart.

The cable that came with the 3g phone is merely a usb to iphone connection. I highly doubt the Mini-provided iPod/iPhone cable is the same...I believe I saw photos of separate audio connectors and communication cable that is at one end of the mini-provided ipod/iphone cable. not the same as the cable provided by Apple.

i have a 2008 mini with a mini Ycord - the built in USB (which used to charge and upload my old iphone info into my stereo) and built in jack to connect iphone directly to play through stereo. the new 3G sadly doesn't charge and doesn't load my info into the stereo anymore with the same cord. it does still play music from iphone through the serial jack. my bluetooth works fine and integrates with system seamlessly. i've contacted mini and they told me they weren't given access to the 3g to work out kinks - they hadn't had any reports yet of this problem. it's really a bummer that the same cord won't preform the same duties as before. i was runninging perfectly before. has anyone found one that works? i'm in a funk without it as i'm always in my car doing business and listening to my music on my 3g. crap!!

Ridax offering iPhone 3G Charge Converter

Ridax, a company that sells various iPod Dock Connector accessories, has begun taking pre-orders for its iPhone 3G Charge Converter. The small accessory, the design of which is still being finished, will allow iPhone 3G owners to use older iPod and iPhone charging accessories that are currently incompatible with the 3G to charge the device by converting the power stream to suit the iPhone 3G. It will feature both male and female connectors, as well as a mini USB connector on the side to provide a way to charge the device when connected to a non-charging, Dock Connector-equipped accessory, and will also function as a short Dock extender. Ridax’s iPhone 3G Charge Converter will be available in September for $40; those who want the device sooner can pre-order a $45 “bare” version which will ship in August, followed by the plastic cover which will arrive in September. There is no guarantee that the converter will be safe to use with all accessories, so use caution in ordering.

This is such an odd issue. I also have a 2008 Mini Cooper S and it does everything it's supposed to with my iPhone 3G (transfers ipod info as well as contact list info for the bluetooth phone), BUT, it acts really screwy with power management. Sometimes I get the lightning bolt charging icon and other times I get the "on-AC" plug icon (regardless of level of charge), and sometimes it changes back and forth during the same session. I've tried wiggling the cable to see if it's a loose connection, plugging and unplugging, powering-on and off, reseting, and can't seem to find out what makes it decide whether to charge or not. Worse, I think that even when it says "on-AC", the battery level continues to drop, especially when playing music or making phone calls... so I think that even though it believes it's connected to a power source, it's not really receiving power!

The other mystery is why some people with 2008 minis are not able to see their info on the stereo, and at least in my case, I am. Could there be different firmwares associated with the mini hardware? Can the firmware be upgraded? I hope they work this out, because except for the power issue (which is a huge issue considering the 3G's poor battery performance), I'm happy with the rest of the integration. The iPod music sounds terrific through the mini, as does the bluetooth phone.
