iPhone ring volume resetting

I'm having the same problem... I thought it might be to do with the 3rd Party App called Tuner which i have it on half way vol, but even after setting that as max and putting youtube vol to max and the ipod vol to max... im still having the same problem where the volume just keeps flicking back to either half way point or the minimum level...

Now ive realised that this only happens when i receive phone calls or when i make phone calls... This is really annoying because after reading all what u guys had to say i've tried leaving the phone un touched for more than an hour and still it's the same every time i ring or receive a call the vol just goes wonky...

Apple need to address this issue ASAP...

I am glad that I am not the only one who noticed the same volume setting problems on my iPhone. At first I thought my mind was playing tricks with me, but obviously not. Now, I just read that the newest seed for 2.01 software update might fix this problem. So lets wait, hope and see...

Wanted to add my voice to this.
I'm using a white 16 GB iphone 3g. Version 2.0 (5A345). The ipod volume setting affects the ringer volume setting. No matter what the ringer volume is set to, eventually it just resets back to what the ipod volume setting is... this happens almost always after i turn the device on/off, but seems to happen by itself at other times too.

Okay, I restored and am running version 5A347 and am still having the volume problem.

its a bug...
i called apple and the tech support said this was normal... i said Normal?
If i set it to the maximum I expect it to stay at that spot, not revert back tot he middle. The tech said it was the resting spot for the volume...

well, at least the tech is good for a laugh... the resting spot for the volume. that's funny. i actually laughed out loud.

my friends don't have this problem, so i wonder why i (and so many others here) are having the issue.

Any solution yet? I am having the same problem as well as my wife. We both have the 16 gig.

I've been having this problem, and it looks like what's happening is that the iPhone keeps different volume settings based on whether you have headphones plugged in or not, but does not have separate iPod vs. ringer settings.

This is what I just tried, and it seems to work for me. I'm hoping this is not just a temporary fix.

1) With the headphones plugged in, open up iPod.
2) Set your volume to your desired headphones setting.
3) Exit iPod
4) Go to Sound Settings and verify the volume is set to what you picked in step 2.
5) Exit Settings.
6) Unplug your headphones.
7) Open up iPod.
8) Set the volume to maximum, or whatever your desired "no headphones" volume is (really whatever you want your ringer volume to be).
9) Exit iPod.
10) Go to Sound Settings and verify the volume is what you picked in step 8.

Apologies for what seems to be a lot of extra and probably useless steps. I'm sure you can just set the headphones/no headphones volume settings right in Sound Settings instead of in the iPod app, but I figured it's safer to just give the exact steps I just tried.

Good luck to everyone trying to get their volume settings sorted out, and here's hoping a future update will actually let us make all these settings on a clearly labeled screen instead of with all this guesswork.

I wanted to add also that those who don't hear the lock sound when you lock your phone (the shck sound), you just need to do all the fixes here and turn off / on your iPhone.

Got me scratching my head for quite a bit of time. I hope they fix this problem soon.

Exactly what I was looking for. A great fix, missed an important call from an employer from this "glitch".

The Apple tech is a moron.

I had my Ringer volume set to full.

My iPod volume without head phones was set to half.

Then I went back to Ringer volume, still full.

Then I went to iPod again without head phones, still half.

Then I pressed the play button.

Then I pressed the pause button.

Then I went and looked, and my ringer volume was half.

Sorry, but the ringer volume should not be tied to the iPod volume in ANY way, headphones, docked, no headphones, whatever.

If this is desired functionality then the designer should be paddled. 🙂

The ringer volume is also tied to the call volume. If, while in a call, you turn the volume down, guess what happens? Yep - your ringer volume gets reset, too.

Why, why, why would ringer volume ever be tied to call volume? I use a B/T headset. If I set the call volume to max, I blow my eardrum out. But that doesn't mean I don't want the phone to RING LOUD.

I'm not completey sure this is just tied to ipod volume, because I didn't use the ipod at all after setting it at full and my ringer still resets itself to the *same exact place every time*

I have updated to version 2.0.1 and this problem is happening.
