Problem with Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard

While the buttons Mute, +/- Volume and Stop works on my Microsoft MultiMedia Keyboard, the buttons Play/Pause, Previous Track and Next Track do not. They behave as if they have been pressed twice.

Clicking Play plays and then almost immediately pauses the music, and Pause pauses the song then almost immediately plays it again. Prev/Next track skips two songs at the time.

This behavior only occurs when iTunes is the active window. If another window is active, then the buttons work correctly, but also maximize iTunes and make it the active window. This is also very annoying.

All this happens only when I play songs in iTunes. I have the IntelliType Pro ITP5_2Eng.exe drivers (v. 5.2). I have read several other posts by people with this problem, but no one has been able to solve the problem. I do not want to use scripts assigned to each button because that would prohibit the keys from working in other programs such as my DVD program.

The buttons work fine in other media player software (Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) but have some problem with iTunes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, jim

Hi James,

After an extensive search all over the net, I found a simple solution that worked beautifully for me -- use the previous version of Intellitype, v.5.0!! I uninstalled v.5.2 and then installed 5.0 and voila, everything works great. You will need to do a net search to find the older version of Intellitype because I don't believe Microsoft supplies it any longer (I'm not entirely sure about this).

My play/pause button, forward and reverse button on the keyboard work just fine!

Best,
Bill
