Bonjour Service!!!

Ok, here goes my long story...
I have mcafee personal firewall, so if there's a program that wants permission to have access to the internet, i have to approve it. while i'm updating my itunes 4.9 to itunes 5.0, my firewall program asks if i want to allow bonjour service access to the internet. i say no thinking that bonjour service has nothing to do with the installation of itunes, i mean that sounds like it has nothing to do with it! Later into my installation, it said...
Error 1920. Service Bonjour Service (Bonjour Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviliges to start system services.
when i cancel the installation, it says...
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation
Consult windows installer help (msi.chm) or msdn for more information.
So while most people are saying that having bonjour service is preventing them from installing itunes, my problem is that NOT having bonjour service is preventing me from installing itunes.
The problem is that i can't find bonjour service in my firewall program so i can't unblock it...
WHAT DO I DO? I'VE BEEN STUCK WITH NO ITUNES FOR 2 WEEKS NOW! PLEASE HELP!
xoxo
thank you!

Dear B,
Your help is much appreciated! Unfortunately, my windows management instrumentation was already running and i do not have norton internet security. I don't think it's the itunes that's the problem, it's my firewall because that's what i used to block the bonjour service, which once again sounded like it had nothing to do with itunes. i hope this information might be useful for you and you can maybe still help me! i saw you helped a lot of people and i hope i can be one of the many
thank you so much!

I was trying to upgrade to itunes 5.0 but I am getting the error message that says.....Error 1920. Service Bonjour Service (Bonjour Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviliges to start system services. After I cancel I get this next error message...
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation
Consult windows installer help (msi.chm) or msdn for more information.

I have tried everything to correct it but nothing has worked. I looked online for a resolution and have tried all the suggestions but have had no luck. I disabled my Norton Internet Security, I made sure that the Windows Management Insturmentation service was enabled....nothing has worked. My itunes worked fine before I tried to install the upgrade. Please help!!!!!

Thanks,
Jen

When I first got the Bonjour error message I tried the follwing to correct it; first I did a system restore, which brought back the orig. Itunes I had on my computer. I tried the install again and the same thing happened. After that I tried the application recovery to recover Itunes because it had then disappeared from my computer. After I tried both of these steps a few more times I realized that it obvisously wasn't fixing the problem. I then looked online to try and find out what to do and then tried the following steps from the link you listed;
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302335.
I tried both suggestions; to disable my Norton Internet Security and then to insure that the Windows Management Instrumentation was enabled. After trying both of these things and then attempting to reinstall it was still giving me the same error messages. I'm not sure if there is something else I should try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I had an idea...
If I uninstall my virus scan, firewall, and anti-spyware programs, i might be able to download itunes because the block i made would no longer exist since the firewall is uninstalled. After downloading itunes, i can reinstall the programs and i'd just not have any programs blocked or allowed! Before i do it, i want to see if anyone agrees with me or it's just a stupid idea

thanks!

hi Dusan!

I've been wondering about that too. had been thinking i might suggest it to people with really difficult Norton issues ...

I've had another thought, though.

we've been treating your 1920 like it's a standard Bonjour 1920/1921 ... which is why it's been really strange that
b no
technique has been working for you.

but on rare occasions, we would get 1921s on 4.9 installs. the way we used to get around those was to use one of the installshield tips and pointers on changing the DCOM settings. here's a case study:

Nick Cooper1, "Error 1921 Then Error 1603 (i am and administrator)", 10:21pm Aug 12, 2005 CDT

might be worth trying in your case. here is a link to the tip:

keep us posted.

love, b

B noir...
I looked at the link that you gave me and i followed the instructions given. As far as i know, I was already set up the way I was supposed to according to the instructions, so that didn't work. I might just try deleting the firewall and other programs, i just dont know if that would disable all the allowed and blocked programs that i made, which is what i want. please reply!

thank you thank you!
