Slow Contacts

It's called "Google Search" and searches your contact list.
I just tried it and indeed it is very fast, but due, I think, to restrictions placed on the device by Apple it can only display the record not allow editing of the record. So if you want to send an e-mail to, or call the person you're good, if you wanted to use it to add additional information to the record (new phone number or whatever) I do not think that would be possible....

Or doesn't appear possible, but I'm new to this 😉

Hmmm... I guess that app is not available on the Japanese App Store yet...

I just downloaded the 2.01 update. At first my contacts seemed to be faster; however, I still notice some significant lags at certain times. I have set up my contacts in "Groups" in my address book. When I click on the different Groups, I do notice lags when it switches between the groups of up to 5 to 6 seconds. I'm greatly disappointed that the contacts in the address book don't work robustly and respond immediately when you navigate between groups or even sometimes just loading the contacts. It seem elementary and something that should just work--period. Pretty basic. This is one of my biggest pet peeves of the Iphone along with the bad battery life with the iPhone 3G. I would have paid $50 to $75 more for the phone if it had excellent battery life while using all of the features and not just "stand by" time!

Searching for contacts has been nothing but a chore for me. Especially through the sms text search where it takes at least 5 seconds to load, then another 5 to load the contacts then another 5 to scroll the names. Then after pushing a name that takes, well you get the picture. It's glitchy and 2.0.1 is no different. Every time I call apple they tell me to hard reboot or restore but I've done that like 40 times now. Of course it'll run better for the first couple hours after a reboot or restore but by the end of the day its back to the same sluggish response as before. Guess we have to wait for the new firmware....AGAIN!

I'm having the same issue on my iPhone and it's only 18 contacts. Ever since downloading directly from Mobile Me, it halts for ten seconds and then it lets me check my contacts again.

Tried in Airplane Mode and it's letting me check without halting.

Seriously, this is a joke.
I have about 30 contacts, and the lag is ridiculous. About 5 seconds before I can scroll.
This is after the 2.0.1 so-called bug fix update.
Pathetic.

Contacts work great for me after 2.0.1. Had had the lag problem before the update.

It's happening to everyone I know with an iphone 3g. This includes those who have updated to 2.0.1

Contacts responds instantly from within the phone app and if you have contacts already selected instead of say the keypad, it is the same as if you had pressed the contacts icon on the home screen.

Somewhat related... when hitting the + sign to add a contact to address field in an SMS or email, there is a long pause before the "contact" is acknowledged and added to the address field. How long... 5 -9 seconds to where I have actually tapped on the contact a couple more times thinking the touch screen was not being responsive. Maybe next release?

If you haven't already, try to apply the 2.0.1 update. It seems to have fixed a bunch of things for me, including (I think) this contacts problem. It seems faster to me but I haven't really tested it much under different scenarios.

I found using the contacts from the phone app is always responsive, the contacts app always has a delay.

One thing I would like to note. I deleted AOL IM and everything is faster!

WOW!!!!!! I thought that the lag had something to do with my 291 contacts stored, but the work-around worked like a charm. It responded right away within the phone app...... kudos for discovering it.

I'm having the same problem. Funny thing is I upgraded to 2.0.2 and it was "fixed" but it's now back to a laggy start - this is less than 20 contacts. The phone work around works fast if you leave your contacts up.
