Email stuck at connecting...........

I have a problem with the new IPhone when trying to get email from my POP3 accounts - I know they are all working and email is waiting.

It is set to Fetch every 15mins.

If I switch on my phone (or do a network reset), then go into Mail I see at the bottom of the screen it says "Connecting" with the little O at the left going around - I also look at the top and the O (next to the 3G symbol is also going around).

It then changes to "Checking for new mail" and then Mail comes down and all is fine.

Then aftre about 30mins (sometimes more, sometimes less) .. I look at my mail and all I can see is the at the bottom of the screen it says "Connecting" with the little O at the left going around .. Nothing at the top.

It can stay like that for ages ... and no mail comes down at all (even though I know I have some).

Internet works fine, so the connectivity is good ... Later on it can suddenly work.

If I switch on/off it works again (same as network reset).

I have reloaded firmware/v2.0 of the software and stil the same - it happens on 3g, Edge or WiFi ...

I have called apple support ... as you can see by this post, they were useless !

Anyone offer any advice ?

I have a very similar problem on a first generation phone running 2.0 firmware. I find that my email isn't being picked up on the schedule I've set. I tried 15 minutes and 30 minutes without effect.

Sometimes all is well, but other times, the email isn't picked up on the schedule I set. Often, if I open the Mail application and go to an inbox, the check for mail will start and the waiting mail will then download.

Turning the phone off and on usually helps, but only for a while. Then it reverts.

i have this problem too. the only fix i have figured out is to restart my phone which isn't really a fix. i posted this same issue last night and got one person who replied that Apple had replaced his phone because of this issue but it didn't resolve.

i guess this is a bug that needs to be fixed. there's a link somewhere to be able to report bugs like this to apple.

i'm going to look for it and post it here so we can get as many people to report it.

I have had the 3G phone for 2 weeks now. I have reset the Network settings (I kid you not) at least 30 times to get and send email. Mostly to send email. I had the orig Iphone which my husband has now and his is having a problem sending emails also. When I call, I am told by some AT&T customer service agents that their data network is down. Then I call again and get a totally differnt answer. Apple does not seem to be able to help me. They just tell me to reset my phone and reset network settings. I shouldn't have to keep doing this. My outbound server is cwmx. I have cox in the Scottsdale area, and didn't really have this problem at home. I am in Utah for a few weeks ,so now is the time when I really need the email features! What a dissapointment! My internet works fine . Does anyone have any clue why sending email is so intermittent?

I have to chime in with the same problem. I have 3 POP accounts that have not worked properly since I got the phone last week. I am rebooting my phone about 10x per day just to receive mail. The most frustrating aspect is that it won't send an email if you are experiencing the connection failure, so if you have typed out a long email hit send your mail ends up in never never land. It would be nice if it saved a "draft" of a typed mail. I now have to connect to mail before typing an email just to make sure there isn't a connection problem, then I type and send and pray! I have turned off fetch completely.

So, is anyone NOT having connection issues with POP email?
