I restarted my iMac and lost everything!!!

I restarted my iMac, and all my pictures, my music in iTunes was all gone! Is there a way to get it back?!?!?!

Any ideas what may have caused this to happen?

iMac G4 (flat panel), Mac OS X (10.4)

Have you checked:

~your Home folder/

Music/iTunes/ (contains)>iTunes Music, iTunes Music Library.xml, iTunes Library (Data)

~your Home folder/ Pictures/iPhoto Library

If these folders are still there, they can be reimported into iTunes and iPhoto.

Yes. Nothing is there. It's almost like I just got the computer as new. The only thing that is setup is my user account. All of my settings are gone, including my wireless network settings.

Just for fun I started to retore my iTunes library from the back up I had created, and it said there wasn't enough room for all of the contents.

So that indicates to me that all the stuff I think I've lost is on there somewhere, but I don't know how to bring it back.

I know I am logged into my user account and not a "default" one.

That is an encouraging sign. Since you have Tiger OSX, did you do a search of your internal hard drive with Spotlight?

You could also download this free utility "EasyFind" for Tiger. It is an efficient searching program that is not difficult to use.

It is possible the iTunes and iPhoto folders are buried in some obscure sub-folder.

Give it a shot ..... it can't hurt!

P.S. I would first Repair Permissions using /Applications/Disk Utility/Repair Disk Permissions
