Component AV Cable not working as expected with iPhone 2.0 firmware

I have been using the Apple Component AV Cable with my iPhone for some time now and has worked flawlessly in my car. My car had a built-in DVD with RCA inputs right in the middle glove box compartment so hooking it up is great. It also has the car power plug in the same compartment.
Anyway, I am used to having a video podcast play on my iPhone but the audio play through the car stereo. When I have my kids in the car and they want to watch something from my iPhone I will allow the iPhone to send the video signal to the DVD screen (video and audio out).
Basically, each time I started playing a video for the first time the iPhone would pop up a question asking if I wanted the video on the iPhone or send it out to TV. I also always had the settings in the iPod section for "ask me" or "always use TV" or something to that effect.
Well, since the iPhone 2.0 update I lost that setting completely. Now it thinks that if I plug in the AV cable I MUST want video out to TV. I looked for the settings where they used to be but they are apparently gone!!!
What is going on??? I need that for my 3 and 4 hour drives everyday! I need the option to view video on iPhone but still use the audio through the car stereo.
True, I could just plug in the audio through the audio jack but then I would have extra cables all over since I use the AV Component cable to keep the iPhone charged.
