PLEASE help anyone who knows anything about Windows Media Player

How big is the video you tried to open with flip4mac? You may simply have to wait for it to convert the video stream.

WMP hasn't worked on Macs for a couple of years, now.
Flip4Mac is the one that will work.

Granted, you need Flip4Mac to see .wmv files in browsers, but .wmv files I get as e-mail attachments or that reside on my machine open and run in WMP 9.

If the person is trying to send you DRM video, that won't open on the Mac unless you have a virtualization solution. Also chances are it won't be legal for you to open it on another computer than their own, unless they are willing to transfer the license to you for that video.

If they are sending you a newer type of video than WMP can handle, try Flip4Mac. And if Flip4Mac doesn't work you'll probably need to install Windows on your Mac to play it. Ask them the source they are sending you.

VLC should play your windows media files.

If you have access to windows, there is a free program called "Quick Media" that can convert the media to other formats, such as Quicktime.

If you are using Leopard, you would not even be able to launch Windows Media Player, because the last version was still for Mac OS 9.

Bull. I've run WMP 9 on Tiger and Leopard. BTW, MS Office 2004 included the WMP 9 Series for Mac OS X installer.

You will probably need http://www.stuffit.com/ 's Stuffit Expander to open it.

That's probably because the stream you are playing is using a newer codec than the player has available to it.
