Thoughts
Defiantly a Comcast Issue I believe... as Mail for me has mysteriously been working the last half hour with out issues..... when since last night is was consistent about every other time. I have check for mail set to 5 min.
hmmm... Then I am really wondering why all of a sudden it seems to be working? Is it being tracked or controlled within the OS somehow... or maybe I am just getting paranoid .. lol
i'm a swede living in paris with french, swedish and american mail servers and none of them comcast but the only password mail remmebers is @mac or @me account.
Yep... nix that it is working... just had to put my password in Again... So it seem it works when it wants to ..... I use 3 accounts and only my comcast account is the problem, that's why the suspect of Comcast.
i'd rather say its more plausible that mail has a problem with a certain type of mailservers... or somehting inherent to mail and thats my guess at this moment
Yes, I would have to agree with you on that one... I noticed another thread with similar problems. This has happened to me in the past once in a blue moon, but now, the last couple of days it has become consistent and a bit annoying... so now I'm searching for an answer.
Interesting that so many with this problem are Comcast users as am I. I wondered if it might be a Comcast issue rather than a Mail issue. I have four different Comcast addresses and all of them are doing it. However, my .Mac/MobileMe mail account is working just fine.
I've tried going into Keychain and checking passwords, etc., but the problem still exists. This is a pain.
Another Comcast subscriber here running the latest version of Leopard and Mail. I started getting asked for my email password repeatedly yesterday while I had Mail open. Went though the keychain repair business too. Nothing seems to work. Very frustrating. I'm forced to use the web based mail and I hate it.
This may be interesting, just got off the phone with Comcast support and the person I was speaking with admitted that there is an issue with POP3, but he told me from what he was reading it seemed to be with Outlook... but that he could not rule out that it didn't effect Mail as well... go figure.
I too am a comcast customer. I just installed the Mobile Me update 48hrs ago. I NOW have had the exact same problem everyone else has described. I also have an email through GODADDY and NO issues with that account. It is only affecting my 6 COMCAST accounts. PLEASE FIX!!!
Misery loves company. The behavior of my 3 Comcast POP accounts matches what you all have described...started recently. In my experience, anyway, the correct password is still stored -- if, rather than reenter password, I hit cancel, that email account goes offline. I can take it immediately back online without entering a password. So this makes me think its a timeout or response code from the server...not a keychain problem.
This may not help, but the other day I had the same issue after the mobile me update, and I had to manually change the mail settings from smtp.mac.com to smtp.me.com on the outgoing mail server. It stopped the problems for me. Maybe I just got lucky..
I am confident that this is somehow specifically related to the Mobile Me update. Again this is only my Comcast accounts. My other email accounts are fine. my comcast account worked perfectly with no issues BEFORE I installed the update.
Just for kicks, I even deleted all my accounts and reconfigured them. Still no resolve.
