ipod touch dead after restore failed during 2.0 update
alright i downloaded the 2.0 software update for my ipod touch and everything was fine until after it backed up the ipod and started restoring it it said restore failed and now the ipod displays the connect to itunes thing but itunes wont recognize the ipod anymore ive tried restarting my computer and the ipod several times but nothing works can anyone help me?
The exact same thing happened to me, no idea why and no idea how to get the 2.0 update working, anyone know?
I do however know how to resurrect your iPod, you need to connect to a Mac or PC that does not have the 2.0 update downloaded, once you connect in then restore your ipod via iTunes, it will install the last FREE update and you can use your ipod again. Just don't install the 2.0 update when you connect back onto your own mac. Hope this helps you.

I can give you the link for the ipod touch 1.1.4 firmware if you wish to restore it by pressing shift and restore until the update is released? When you are under itunes does it even recognize the ipod so that you can restore it????

http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/26/iphone-and-ipod-touch-get-1-1-4-firmware-upda te/ This is the link. Right under the second picture there is a link for the ipod touch software. Save it to your desktop and when that is complete open Itunes with your ipod plugged in. When it comes up HOLD the shift key and click RESTORE....you will then be able to select the file you saved to your desktop. Please ask any questions and notify if it work or if you run into any problems? Thanks Chris
it worked the ipod restored and works fine now so i guess my problem is solved thanks yall for your help if anyone finds out how to make 2.0 work please let me know
Okay I tried all the above steps -
Downloaded 1.1.4 and restored using this file
Once restoring the phone was stuck for hours in "Restoring iPod". The iTouch was stuck in the restoring mode as well.
