Where is the backtick?

I just got my iPhone 3G, and was trying to set up a WIFI connection that uses a password with lots of punctuation characters. I was able to enter every character except the backtick ( ` ) character. Is there some special trick to type it in?

I've seen the backtick on the on-screen keyboard when entering an email address (when composing an email), but it's not there any other time from what I can tell.

I've found posts on other sites of people having the same problem. When will this character be added to the keyboard?

Another option, as a workaround, would be have a clipboard (copy/paste) feature... and that seems to be missing as well.

I was going to suggest that one of the symbols that appears when you press and hold the apostrophe might be a backtick. But I put all of them into a note, mailed it to myself, and looked at the ASCII codes. No such luck.

You can probably use the iPhone Configuration Utility to create a wifi profile on your computer, then transfer it to the iPhone. Here's a link to all of the options:

It is correct to say that the ` has been missing and has been reported. Don't know what is taking so logn for a missing key that people use.

As for comment about the hopes of a developer making a new keyboard.
One has to know that is impossible (official software anyhow).

Any apps made with the SDK cannot intergrate into other apps (add-in/replacement/etc). Apps can tap into some expoosed services (camera, gps, contacts, pull up keyboard) but that is it. Each app is selfcontained. So there is no way to replace or enhance parts of the phone in other apps (eg: one cannot make a new keyboard, one cannot change how the photo library works, one cannot add new features to sms, etc etc).

That fact makes the whole SDK reason moot. The SDK was supposed to add the functionality and apps that Apple doesn't have the time or money to do. Here Apple has released this great Micro Mac (or should I say Macro Mac?) that also just happens to have cell phone capability, but it is crippled. It is no different that releasing an iMac or keyboard with vital features like cut-and-paste or keys like the backtick missing.
