Can you charge the iPhone with iPod chargers?

I have a 5G Video iPod. I keep its USB charger cable attached to a hub that is attached to my iMac. Can I use that cable to charge my iPhone, too? Can I also use the iPod wall charger and cable to charge the iPhone? I supposed I can't use the Firewire iPod cable attached to my iMac that came with my 3G iPod? One other question. I have a direct connection for my iPod installed in the stereo systems of both my cars. One has a dock connection cable that comes out directly from the rear of the receiver, the other car has a Belkin Auto Kit that is installed into my Powerport that has a dock connector cable coming from it. Can both of those be used to charge the iPhone. It would be great to be charging the iPhone while streaming radio stations from some of the apps. I don't want to harm the electronics in the iPhone by using something that is not compatible! Thanks for your help
