Nickname as CallerID display?

This is a really good question, and I assume it can't be done other than changing the entire entry in contacts. If enough people ask for this simple feature, they could probably include it in a future software update. You can already enter nicknames when you add a contact (or on your Mac in Address Book). All we would need is a check box saying "display nickname when making/receiving calls" and/or "for text messages".

Yes, it is a shame to have a nickname field then not use it.

For many reasons I want to put peoples proper names in the Address Book, but would like my iPhone to use informal names for my family etc.

I've gone ahead and requested it on the feedback page and urge others to do the same. 🙂

Put Mom in your contacts list as "Mom" rather than her full name.
