iPhone taking a long time to Sync due to "backup"

So after installing 2.0 and some cool new apps, when I just try and sync to my PC it takes around 45 minutes because it runs a backup of everything.

Why is that?

Is it because I installed an app from the iPhone App store and then had to sync it with my iTunes ones that I installed? I've since removed the app that I downloaded from the iPhone app store and only have the ones I found through iTunes but it still takes a $*&# long time to sync becauase it's "backing up".

Any thoughts?

Is a Restore in order?

Thanks.

Both my husband's and my phones take a significant amount of time to sync, due to this backup issue. And no, I am not connected to a USB hub, but directly to the back of my iMac. I was wondering if it may be due to the amount of space left on the hard drive? I only have about 4g left, whereas, on my husband's iMac there's a ton of space left.

Any thoughts?

TIA,
Tina

A "feature" of the new firmware + iTunes 7.7 is automatic full backups of the iPhone. I can't make out exactly what the timing scheme for it is or what triggers it, but it backs up fully several times a day if I sync....but sometimes it doesn't.

You can cancel the backup by clicking the little "x" to the right of the backup progress bar. Works like a charm.

Thanks sooo much for the "x" tip! I started having this same problem yesterday (except for me, I have yet to see a backup and sync complete successfully. After about an hour and a half I get fed up and eject it and leave without syncing. An hour and a half!)

It looks like this "x"-ing out is going to work for syncing, but occasionally I'd like to backup my phone...
