Apps Close Automatically

I'm encountering this error every day now where at a certain point, when I open applications, they automatically close out and return to the main screen. None will open except the factory made ones like phone, contacts, etc. What's the deal?

i had this problem this morning, I selected to not sync apps in iTunes so all apps were uninstalled then selected to sync again and it fixed my issue. The problem that I have with this is that all my progress in games were gone and all data in my apps were gone.

There has to be a better solution i'm sure.

The app isn't "closing" it's CRASHING.

You can cut down on app crashes by rebooting the iphone every day or two (hold down the power and home buttons until the phone resets itself (ignore the shutdown slider)) or holding down the power button on 3rd party apps when you quit them. Hold it for like 6 seconds or something and it will QUIT the app instead of suspend it and you'll return to the main screen.

Seems like a lot of stability problems are caused by bad interactions with suspended apps in the background. I've started following the instructions above and I haven't had an app crash or a kernel panic in days.

There should absolutely be something in place to make sure this doesn't happen (or is at least less likely to happen), but at the moment there isn't. 😟

This isn't just the 3G though. This affects both types of iPhone.

With time I think you'll see an improvement.

There is the fact as well though that a lot of the crashes are due to problems in the 3rd party app or its inability to deal with circumstances in the OS. It's not entirely apple's fault. If these devs would learn to debug their apps, a lot of things would be better.

Hi

I was experiencing the same issue and this fix worked for me. I purchased the phone with the 2.0 version of the software. Updated to 2.0.1 and I thought that the apps "closing, crashing," whatever you want to call it. It wasn't fixed by the update.

So, this is what I did. I went into the system preferences of itunes, clicked the "syncing" tab, and removed all of the backups for the iphone. I had 3 because of both the new phone and a previous 1st gen phone. I deleted them all, closed and restarted iTunes, plugged in the phone, and viola no apps closing issue.

they're crashing rather than closing ... we had this sometimes, after downloading a new app, when it & others would crash ... initially, I went through all the rigmarole of deleting & reloading the affected apps ... then I found just switching the 'phone off (power-button down for a while, then slider) and on a again fixed it every time ... so far, anyway !
