Why does itunes sync take so long after 2.0 upgrade

I've noticed that since upgrading to 2.0 last week, whenever I plug in my iphone to my computer the sync with iTunes takes forever. (At least several minutes.) It appears that itunes, rather than just syncing contacts and making sure music is the same and such is repeating to some extent the procedure it went through when I upgraded the phone to 2.0. When I connect my phone, it says "backing up iphone", then the progress bar chugs along for several minutes, then "restoring iphone" which takes several more minutes. It does this every time I sync with iTunes. Is anyone else noticing this behavior? It still works fine, but it's annoying that a sync which used to take 30 seconds now takes up 5-10 minutes.

I am noticing this too and actually just posted the same question in a different area. Mine takes around 20 minutes to fully backup.

I thought it might be due to the fact that I downloaded an app from the iPhone store and then tried to sync it with the ones that I got from the iTunes store. But I have since removed the iPhone store app and it still takes a long time to sync.

I am having the same problem. It seems to be backing up the whole iPhone when syncing (all 4, 8, or 16 gigs depending on your model). You can press the x in the display part of iTunes where it says "backing up '.' iPhone"to skip the backing up process and just sync everything else. I hope there is an update soon since this last back up is taking over an hour and a half. Hope this helps.

Some of you people are really likely. Mine takes three hours or more to sync, including a monumental 35 minutes or so to synch my two email accounts, that of my ISP and mobileMe. But Push works, or did until just now as during my last sync, the Iphone sumply died. ITunes froze, the phone screen went blank and it cannot be turned on. I have left it in the cradle to continue charging, but it had plenty of reserve before it died.
Is there some kind of reset button on the outside which I can use?
