I've noticed that since upgrading to 2.0 last week, whenever I plug in my iphone to my computer the sync with iTunes takes forever. (At least several minutes.) It appears that itunes, rather than just syncing contacts and making sure music is the same and such is repeating to some extent the procedure it went through when I upgraded the phone to 2.0. When I connect my phone, it says "backing up iphone", then the progress bar chugs along for several minutes, then "restoring iphone" which takes several more minutes. It does this every time I sync with iTunes. Is anyone else noticing this behavior? It still works fine, but it's annoying that a sync which used to take 30 seconds now takes up 5-10 minutes.

Generic, Windows XP, Athlon64 3000 2 GB RAM XP Home

I am noticing this too and actually just posted the same question in a different area. Mine takes around 20 minutes to fully backup.

I thought it might be due to the fact that I downloaded an app from the iPhone store and then tried to sync it with the ones that I got from the iTunes store. But I have since removed the iPhone store app and it still takes a long time to sync.

Same here. Anyone found an answer or solution to this anywhere?

I'm sure Apple didn't intend every single sync/backup to take at least 30 minutes every time the iPhone is connected to the computer!

I just posted a thread with all the errors I've been having. Mine takes 45+ minutes to sync. That's on a good day! I barely have anything on my phone just to save sync time now.

There are lots of threads for this same topic..i'm in the same boat. The first time i plugged my new iPhone in, it was fine. After the initial eject from iTunes, every time i plug it back in...it's the same story. I'm thinkin its gotta be mobile me...maybe??

Any of the other threads have an answer to this? I haven't seen one.

I am having the same problem. It seems to be backing up the whole iPhone when syncing (all 4, 8, or 16 gigs depending on your model). You can press the x in the display part of iTunes where it says "backing up '.' iPhone"to skip the backing up process and just sync everything else. I hope there is an update soon since this last back up is taking over an hour and a half. Hope this helps.

It's the applications. The more you have the longer it will take. Try deleting them and your sych should take seconds just like before.

so then, what's the point of having the applications if it slows down the whole system and makes synch'ing a nightmare?
  • Nore Level 1 (10 points)
No it's not, I deleted every app I had, even my paid apps. Still does it....

It's not the applications. Myself (I don't have a single one) and many others experiencing this problem do not have applications installed.

EVERYTHING is BAD with mine, pig slow. Do you think they've done it on purpose to make the 3G more appealing? They better not have done. NOT HAPPY!!!!!! :(((

I personally think the full backup I does every time you sync was done on purpose. They know it did this. to prevent jailBreaks possibly?!
  • Brian White3 Level 1 (5 points)
Maybe so, but nonetheless many other people report NOT having to wait more than a minute for a sync/backup to complete.

"EVERYTHING is BAD with mine, pig slow. Do you think they've done it on purpose to make the 3G more appealing? They better not have done. NOT HAPPY!!!!!! :((("

Claiming Apple (or any company) did something like this on purpose is a ridiculous statement.
