iphone 3G - cannot get POP3 email accounts from verizon to work

sounds nice lawrence, but i did both what Father, Bonibee, and Omni did to no avail. I'm popping into a company server using ports 25 and 110 and able to send out via my domain smtp and when checking for mail, it will connect and then 'checking for mail' but nothing comes into box. I was hoping Bonibee's advise would be the trick and I did that, but still...not able to pull down email from my server...

Bummer! you are sure Mail Syncing is unchecked in iTunes? Now I'm stumped.

Thank you Omni and Laurance!!! I tried both your advises. At first it didn't work, but I tried it a couple of other times. I remember I was at the Rite Aid when I decided to try keying in all the info manually to see if it would work, and after about a minute of waiting I finally heard it...the sweet sound of mail being downloaded to my phone. 🙂

All I can say to all of you having problems is to re-enter your POP info, start fresh. The phone has to go through its set up process almost every time there is an update. It is such a pain, but it is a computer after all.

I need help from someone who has successfully setup pop mail to receive/pull down email from a private server using mail.privateserver.com on new 3g phone. I have no problem sending via smtp.privateserver.com and it will connnect for incoming mail and 'check for mail' but nothing shows up on iPhone. I have tried all steps used above and still not working. Thanks for trying guys...

I use a private server for my POP account...but my host is "pop.privateserver.com" for the incoming.

Did you make sure to delete the account from your phone completely, then re-add it?

I was told by Apple to download latest version of iTunes..7.7.1 which I did, as it is supposed to address some Outlook issues but not all. So I loaded. deleted all accounts on my iPhone and synced with desktop Outlook mail and still have the same issue. I also tried some advice to set up a Gmail account and it will send via my private server smtp but will not receive. so, can't get gmail to work or my private server.... suppose to see Apple Genius this afternoon, so let's see how 'genius' they are...

I have tried connecting to my company's POP3 server through my 3g Iphone to no avail.

This is a private corporate server, not an ISP.

I have had no success in receiving any mail. I have deleted the accounts and re-input the information on numerous occasions. Some of the time I was able to send mail, but curiously it would only send to email addresses of the same domain name. When I tested sending them to an outside domain the messages were kicked back as invalid.

I have tried everything, and I have no idea where to look. Please help if you have had similar issues and have found a way to resolve them.

sounds like we have the same issue. Apple has been unable to assist. I have deduced that it is not my company server settings, it is the iphone software. Just waiting on apple to solve this problem that appears to affect thousands of users.

i have a similar problem when i syhc my laptop with my 3g. cant get my outlook mail to sync.. any ideas guys ??

Mail does not sync via the computer connection; only the mail settings sync. So I don't understand your question.

Does your computer sync with an Exchange server, or or you using outlook to access a POP3 or IMAP account?

Where do you get the user id/password error, on the computer or on the phone?
