MacBook Pro can't see Airport network but three other macs in house can

Very strange. I can connect my three iMacs (G3, G5 PowerPC and G5 Intel) to my Airport Extreme Network, but my MacBook Pro can no longer see the Network, and Airport utility (from MacBook Pro) cannot see the Airport base station (although other macs' Airport Utility can no problem). My MacBook pro can see 4 other networks (my neighbours' networks). Doesn't seem to be a problem with my MacBook Pro airport card as I can connect to the (non-Mac) wireless network at work with no problem. Am really confused (not the first time)!

Installed the latest Airport Extreme firmware last week, which was the start of the problem, as I then lost the ability to connect to my Virgin Media Broadband digital TV box, necessitating Virgin engineer visiting at weekend to connect a cable modem to the cable tv box, to which the Airport Extreme station is now attached. Had problems connecting my MacBook Pro last night, but eventually managed it. All other macs connect seamlessly. Am stumped.

same thing started happening with my first generation Macbook Pro after updating from Tiger to Leopard. I'm now on 10.5.4 and the Airport Utility on my Macbook Pro fails to find my Airport Extreme basestation, although my network name shows up in the list of available wireless networks, but clicking on it gives me "Connection Timeout". Meanwhile, the Airport Utility on my iBook G4 has no problem showing my Airport Extreme and I can connect to the wireless network without any problem. This used to work on my Macbook Pro under 10.4, what happened!?

I get the same issue intermittently with my macbook pro as well. Something about the networking information stored is going corrupt. I tried deleting all wireless network etnries, deleting my keychain entries, ran disk utility and did a permissions repair, nothing. Finally I entered an intentionally wrong password, then the right password, and that seemed to get it to "reset".

From searching threads this seems like an all-too-frequent issue. I hope Apple comes up with a fix, or at least instructions on how to force this reset so we can more quickly restore our connections.

Add me to this strange occurrence. My situation is this: My MacBook Pro connects to my network without problem, yet it cannot see the AEBS in AirPort Utility, but it does see my two Express stations; when I boot into Vista Ultimate (32-bit), my 'Book connects and sees all the stations just fine. My wife's G4 PowerBook and the house G4 desktop connects and sees everything as well. Near as I can tell, it's an OS X MacBook Pro-specific issue.

I don't think this is an isolated incident nor specific to MBP. I have a MacBook and have been having a similar problem to the rest on this thread. I can connect to the internet, get email, do all the regular stuff. But when I use Airport Utility it does not see the AEBS. Strange thing though is that I don't remember downloading or installing the recent software update. From viewing some of the other discussions going on right now, it seems there are a number of people with a similar problem.

Ditto here. I don't recall exactly when it happened, but my MBP (1.83 GHz MacBookPro 1,1) hasn't been able to "see" the Apple Airport for a while, though my iMac does. Since there's a linksys wireless router upstairs which it can see and connect to (despite being further away), I've been limping along OK. But occasionally I really would like to be on the Apple network, because the signal strength should be better, and I'd like to network more readily with the iMac on that network.

I wonder how many other MBP (or MB) users out there have this problem but own only the one laptop, in which case they'd surely assume the problem is with the Airport... all of us are lucky enough to be able to see the discrepancy across multiple Macs.

I'm troubleshooting a friend's MacBook (Model ID: MacBook4,1) that is having serious Airport problems. This machine's Airport can't see ANY available networks. Sitting right next to my MacBook (identical model), hers is blind while mine can see several open and locked networks including my own Airport base station. If I choose to "Join Other Network..." and enter the network name and password for my network, her machine almost immediately gives me a "Connection timed out" error. It doesn't matter where her MacBook is, it can't see any networks anywhere.

This is a new problem as her Airport was working fine for the first few months. I've just finished making sure all software updates have been applied so she's now running the latest-greatest, but still no Airport.

This sounds similar to the problems other folks here are describing so I figured I'd add my voice to the chorus. I guess I'll take her machine down to the local Apple store this afternoon and see if they have any ideas. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if her Airport card was fried.

I'm working on a clients setup. My MacBook has no problem seeing the Gigabit Time Capsule set to N only. However, the signal is for absolute crap- can't extend out to her garage. Her BellSouth DSL all in one modem/router/G wireless ( a westell Versalink model 327W)has a booming signal- and allows me to see the Time Capsule.
However, her MacBook Pro doesn't even see the N network. Nothing. Nada.
This has been driving me nuts- until I find this forum and see that it's common.
It would be nice of Apple to respond on this issue.
Other wise the Time Capsule, the Extreme basestation and airport express are nothing but expensive doorstops.

This problem remains intermittent for me. I could connect last night, but again tonight I cannot see the network, or find the Airport Extreme Base station with my MacBook Pro, but can see my neighbours locked networks. I remain able to connect my MacBook Pro to my work wireless network (not Apple), and my home network can be seen and joined by the 3 other macs in my house. Infuriating, and still no solution in sight.

Hi, I've not changed the wireless channel (I guess I do this in airport utility), which I'll have to do using one of my 3 iMacs, all of which can see and access the network, so a little reluctant to start messing these around in case I lose everything! I have moved the MBP around the house (over 3 stories) and cannot see the network or see the base station with the airport utility anywhere. Stumped!
