iTunes mixing up greatest hits albums! Joining multiple ones together...

Ok... I've some greatest hits albums.

1) The Cure (Greatest Hits)
2) Tom Petty & THB (Greatest Hits)
3) Queen (Greatest Hits)

When I view by albums, iTunes 7.7 goes goffy!

It shows the Tom Petty Greatest Hits just fine, but then it shows the Cure's greatest hits with only a single song! And then Queen's greatest hits with a single song. And then the Cure with another single song, Queen with another single song, etc.

What's worse is that if I select Tom Petty's greatest hits on my iTouch touch, it shows all the songs I listed above --- even the Cure and the Queen songs (which are clearly not on the Tom Petty album)!

Anyone seen this oddity?

Thanks for the link, but iTune seems to have a greater problem than addressed by that link. For example, the Cure album has the correct metadata. The album title is "Greatest Hits". However, when I click on any of the songs in the album, the album art that iTune shows is the art for Queen's greatest hits and the text under the album art is actually the queen text!

Either Apples' database is wrong, or your ID3 tags are.

Well... I seem to have figured it out. It seems to be a somewhat common problem...

iTune / iPod doesn't seem to be able to tell consistently that albums with the same name are actually different albums. The solution was to rename each album to be unique. For example, "Greatest Hits" became "Greatest Hits (Tom Petty)". I did this for several albums (Who, Cure, Tom Petty, Queen, etc.). Now it works fine.

Also, just a note, iTune wants to download some terrible artwork for Queen's Greatest Hits... Rather annoying.
