itunes 6 & quicktime 7.03 error

I was beating my head against the screen, pulling out what hair is left and cursing my decision to upgrade. I had never had any issues upgrading itunes before, but this time it was not so easy.

I downloaded to my hard drive itunes 6. Installed. During installation process everything was smooth until QuickTime began installation. At that point I had an error message:

Error# 63443

Once I clicked OK or PROCEED (whatever it asked me to do) - the installation went smoothly - acknowledging a successful install of itunes.

The problems began when I clicked on the shortcut located on my desktop. itunes wouldn't open - and window would pop up saying that itunes did not open properly - did I want to send a report to Microsoft. I did the report - tried the suggestion - nothing good happened.

Figuring that the problem was with QuickTime, I downloaded the standalone for QT 7.03. Installed. Rebooted my computer. Opened up QT. QT opened successfully. LEFT QT open - clicked on desktop shortcut to itunes - BAM - it opened. I smiled. All my music was there. Library was there. itunes worked. My joy was complete.

Somewhere in this discussion there's a thread to the QT 7.03 STANDALONE download. Seems like someone posted around 7:00PM Friday the 14th.

Dr. D,

I have purchased music from the Music Store. I have had a few problems - like burning songs - but I've overcome the burning issue by following some advice found here in the discussions. - iTunes closed. I insert cd-r into my drive. Then open iTunes - successful burn.

Kinda frustrating - this latest update - I never had any issues before with any other iTunes update. My computer is 3+ years old - I'm thinking that there may have been some hardware compatability issues OR, it's possible that QuickTime is the culprit

I felt the same way...

I have no magic wand. I only know that installing QuickTime standalone - opening QT - keeping it open - then opening iTunes - worked for me. I have not had to open QT first ever again - I am able to use the desktop shortcut. Try downloading the QT standalone (link above), installing, opening - run something when it opens - demo or something - keep QT open - open iTunes - maybe the magic wand will sweep wide and cover you too.
