Can't download latest iTunes software.

When I open up iTunes, I get the message saying that a new version of iTunes is available for download. I click yes, but it never downloads. This is a recurring problem that I wish to fix. What do I need to do in order to get 6.0 on my computer?

Thanks!

Hello I tried what you suggest about going to the web page, but when I click on download it takes me to a page with a blue screen on the left and a bunch of stuff talking about iTunes 6.0 but it doesnt allow me the chance to click on download or anything. It has been like this with all of the recent updates. I can't update and I have such an old version now that I can't buy music anymore. Thanks for the help.

I am having the same problem - i cant download 6.0. I am having trouble with the music store - i can access it but things are strange and it is not listing the song choices when i search for a particular song nor the songs on an album when i choose an album. In addition i cant access Customer Service from iTunes ("the URL cannot be found")I thought i probably needed to upgrade to solve this problem but nothing happens when i try to do so - i tried downloading from Apple's website instead and that doesnt work either. I am not sure what version i have (how do i tell?).
It sounds like 6.0 is very problematic but i cant seem to make the music store work with my current version. Suggestions?

Aaron and Susan, do you think you could post a screenshot of the webpage you get ? I can't understand what's happening. Also, which web browser are you using ? Maybe I can replicate the issue on one of the PCs we have at home ...

Edit : Just another guess, are you using McAfee's Privacy service or something ? If yes, does disabling it solve your issue ?

(Thanks to b noir on this one)

I'm having a different sort of download problem. I can start the download OK, but the download just stops at anywhere between 15% and 80% complete. The little file transfer graphic keeps going, but % complete counter stops increasing and my firewall stops registering any download activity. I've tried downloading load of times (same problem also with the ipod updater software) and left the download running for hours, but to not avail. Any ideas?

Will-
I am not getting a webpage- i just click to "download iTunes 6.0" and nothing happens, no hourglass, nothing. Same when i try to do it from apple's website.
Its not so much that i really want 6.0, its just that my current version of iTunes (i figured out that its 4.7.1) no longer works and i figured that the new version was probably the fix. You would think that Apple would lend a hand in fixing all this since it means that we cant buy music from them anymore til its fixed.

I am not using McAfee - i have some privacy software from my ISP - i dont think anything has really changed with it lately - i did try reconfiguring the popup blocker but that didnt help.

Is getting 6.0 the only way to get iTunes to work again?

I have had the same problem, unable to buy music from iTunes and unable to download the upgrade....its been doing my head in for two days, but its sorted now.
I completly disabled my internet security, reopened itunes and then checked for updates in the help box, and then I was able to see the download box, and now I am able to use the music store as before.
You could also try this link...it worked on my friend computer:

http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes6/Win/061-2151.20051012.Wnd T6z/iTunesSetup.exe

This is the direct link to the update.....good luck

Lindsay-

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR LINK! I was having the same problem (V4.7), no tracks in itunes store and unable to download V6. Though I tried repeatedly download from Apple's web site. Turned off Norton, but still could not update to V6 from itunes. Your link worked perfectly! I can see the itunes store tracks and my music library was successfully transferred.

I had similar problems my music store would open, but wouldn't show songs that I looked up so I thought that I needed to upgrade it or something so I tried that, but it wont let me download Itunes 6 or Quicktime 7.0.3 I've tried all your suggestions and links and everytime it says

Error Code : -1 and then it says
1628:failed to complete installation

everytime I try to get into itunes and I dont know what's causing it.

the usual culprit when you see a blank blue box on the itunes download page is
b McAfee Privacy Center.
see the McAfee entry here:

... and also see related posts in the thread by Blandine Catastrophe and btabz.

(a similar problem hits the ipod software updater download page, but it's more difficult to tell what is going on because the background for those download buttons is white.)

EDIT: whoops, i see Will has already alerted people to this one ... sorry Will!

hi Nicole!

Error Code : -1 and then it says

1628:failed to complete installation

first try downloading and saving to your hard drive a copy of the QT 7.0.3 standalone installer (we'll run the installation from there rather than on-line). switch off any antivirus and antispyware prior to the install.

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

will your itunes launch now without the (-1)?

keep us posted.

love, b
