Ad Hoc Distribution to a windows machine?

Has anyone been able to use Ad Hoc Distribution from a windows machine to put an app on an iPhone or iPod touch?

I zipped up the .app and .mobileprovision files on the mac but when i bring them over to a windows machine, the .app shows up like it really is as a folder.

And I could not get iTunes to recognize the .app folder or the .mobileprovision file at all.
All the downloaded apps from iTunes come as .ipa files. Does anyone know if there are extra steps needed to do Ad Hoc Distribution on a windows machine?

We had the similar problem. We solved it by downgrading the iTunes version to 7.7. iTunes 8 up definitely has a bug with upgrading ad hoc applications. It was filed to Apple...

Any other information about this problem? I'm trying to deploy ad hoc builds to OS 3 phones on Windows and having trouble (I keep getting Error 0xE8008015). Not sure if it's a problem with my ad hoc build or if it's an issue with iTunes on Windows. Is there a link to the Apple support report? This does have the potential to be a pretty nasty problem for me in the short-term.
