iTunes 6 - Error 1607 - Solution

If you are getting the following error when installing iTunes 6:

Error -1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Runtime

Check to see whether you have installed Microsoft Hotfix MS05-051 (KB902400) lately. It can break permissions on COM+ and MS DTC which will cause all kinds of problems with Windows Installer.

I had this exact problem this morning after installing this hotfix.

I have the same problem with my i tunes, getting the 1607 error. i looked at the website listed above. but i guess i am not as computer savy as i thought and cannot figure out where the windir registration folder is that you need to alter to get i tunes working. please help

just checking. this is actually (comparatively speaking) a fairly rare cause for the 1607. have you checked through the following information yet?
