Switching from Word Processing to Page Layout in Apple Pages

For some reason a template I got from iworkcommunity will only open in Pages in the Word Processing category, when really it is a Page Layout style file. Can I switch a file from one to the other?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

No, you can't except to copy & paste the elements from the WP to a new PL document. I'm guessing the template was created before Pages 3/iWork '08 when there only was what is now word processing mode.
