Convert Microsoft Works Documents

My new Mac has just arrived - I am still finding my feet but wonder how I can convert all of my documents which are saved in the mircosoft works 95 application (wps) onto my new mac iworks08 software.
Can anyone help?

Yep, but it ain't gonna be fast. Pages doesn't open Works documents so you will have to save every one of them in a format Pages can read - RTF is probably your only choice. Don't forget, while MS Works can create all kinds of document types, Pages will only be able to open word processing documents. BTW, the RTF (rich text format) does a decent but not great job of preserving formatting so don't be surprised to find that you need to do some editing in Pages after you open the documents.

There is a program that will partially batch convert. DataViz makes a program called MacLink Plus, it is a file conversion program. According to the DataViz web site it can handle MS Works for Windows 2.0, 3.0, 4.5, & 95 and the program can batch convert. However, it cannot convert into Pages files so you'd still have to convert each intermediary file into Pages. Still, this would let you move all your Works files onto the Mac, convert them into a Pages readable format, and then put Works away for good in pretty quick order. (Since Pages can read Word, AW 6, and RTF you might want to play around a bit to see which format gives you the best conversion if this is the route you choose.)
