Aperture - adjustments disabled

I am a very new user of Aperture. I find that when I click on the adjustments tab it says "adjustments disabled". How do I enable the adjustment?

It's very likely that Aperture is in "Preview" mode. You can toggle Preview on and off in three ways:

1. Pressing the letter "P"
2. Click on the Preview button in the lower right corner
3. Selecting "Quick Preview" from the View menu.

The preview hint is a good one.

As you have an old G4, it is also possible that Aperture simply has not built the image yet. You have to wait until the image is fully loaded before you can make adjustments. On a new Intel with plenty of RAM and good graphics cards it is apparently almost instant. On my old G4 with browsers and films and movie exports running in the background it can last several minutes before an image is fully loaded.
