using Rember

I recently downloaded Rember after getting some memory upgrades for my computers but wasnt sure if just the GUI application was testing it properly and found someone suggested booting into Sigle user mode:

Quote:
1) install Rember

2) Boot into single-user mode:

hold command-S on boot, then:

/sbin/fsck -fy

/sbin/mount -uw /

3) Once you have the hard drive mounted, run the memtest executable buried in Rember. If you installed Rember to /Applcation/Utilities the path would be:

/Applications/Utilities/Rember.app/Contents/Resources/memtest
does either way make a difference at all? even if the memory is being used by the OS while running the GUI?

Mac OS X (10.5)

that should work. It's probably slightly better to do it from single user mode because full memory will be tested that way. however, the difference is really quite small. If you are ok with doing it from command line I would go for [Memtest|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17156] directly. Rember is just a GUI wrapper for an older version of memtest (which is a few years old I think).
