iPhone Lost Contact Phone Numbers Today

At about 3:40P EST, my iPhone lost all it's contacts for a period of about twenty minutes and the Recent Calls list became duplicated in my Favorites list and my Favorites list disappeared.

About 20 minutes after I noticed this, my contact list came back with Personal & Company Names and with the Notes field but WITHOUT THE PHONE NUMBERS OR ADDRESSES. (I'm not yelling...just emphasizing.) But this is crazy!

I still have the full version of the Contacts list on my computer. I tried a soft reboot and I tried to disconnect from MobileMe and cable sync through iTunes (as I used to before this hellish MobileMe experience) but iTunes reports that I'm still receiving the push even though I've shut it down.

Can anyone suggest what is happening? Can anyone suggest a way to fix this?

TIA

Thanks Allagash, solved my problem. I just deleted that account and it came back up about 5 minutes later. One hint, a lot of people are reporting that the contacts remains at "no contacts" and doesn't seem to work. Sometimes you have to click on the groups tab in the upper left corner and then click on the "All Contacts" and when it slides back to the regular contact page all the contacts will be there!

I'm back in the saddle again, and happy....

Same thing happened to me. Noticed it on he way home. When I got home, checked mobileMe, everything there, checked Mac Address Book, everything there (did a backup of it, just in case). Went out to dinner, and stopped by the local apple store. Apple guy suggested turning off sync of contacts, which effectively deleted all contacts on the phone, then, turned it back on. After about 30-45 seconds, voila, everthing back, except, mapping custom ring tones. Seems like apple "did it again", with some kind of global change to MobileMe.... way to go boys....

It happened to me too around the same time. This time though, my contact names are available with no phone numbers attached to them. What do I do?! I'm going to have to shout from the roof tops not to even try mobile me. I don't use it or sync it with a computer and just wanted it to me mobile me and my iPhone. This is not very Apple like and embarrassing to my friends who I have always recommended Apple products.

What do I do?

about 5 hour later, I was able to delete my mobile me account in my iPhone, check out my contacts up in the cloud, and online, they were correct. So, I redid my account on my iPhone and the things that disappeared on my contacts is the ringtone customization.

piratemc742,

Hi. Where did you turn off the sync of contacts? Did you do this in MobileMe Sync preferences? Or did you do this somewhere else? I did it from MobileMe Sync preferences (turned off), did a sync, checked my MobileMe (in Safari). the contacts were still there. It didn't seem to not sync. I must be missing something. Please advise your step by step, if you don't mind.

Thanks in advance...

It happened to me too. Same time. I have tried everything. I just decided to do a total restore. I agree with everyone that is complaining. Apple has truly screwed the pouch on this one. I hope I get all of my apps back too after the restore.

One thing that I did notice that all of my favorites changed from the name of the contact to the phone number, however all the contact data phone numbers disappeared yet all of the contact names and notes remained.

The bad thing is there is no way that I know of to export all of your data so that you can have a hard copy. Does anyone have a clue on to do that. Right now, I feel that Apple is in control of all of my data.

By the way, I didn't see a way to sync the contact data using iTunes. It says mobile me is in charge of that.

I solved the problem but in a different way. I noticed all the contacts were gone, so I tried deleting the mobileme account and creating it again... nothing happened. Then I did the Contacts "Off" - "On"... nothing... then I turned off Wi-Fi and all the data came to the phone almost instantly. I dont know if it was a coincidence but after trying several things that worked.

It JUST happened to me as well. Walked home, my iphone connected to my wifi at home, synched via MobileMe, and not only did my iphone address book get nuked, but address book on macbook AND "cloud" i.e. MobileMe online. It happened instantly. I am now left with nothing. I tried resynching and other options such as deleting the MobileMe account on iPhone and creating again, but my address book got nuked on me.com, macbook AND iphone. How the &*^$ can this happen? If anybody has any ideas, it would be great. I am hoping that the idiots at Apple have backups on their servers of people's data. My last itunes phone backup was last week, so at least I could restore. I will lose some numbers. I will however NOT use mobileme "synching" until Apple has resolved this. Totally unnaceptable. And totally catastrophic if you are on the road without access to itunes for restoring a backup! I am frankly irate.
