Why is my ipod screen grey and unresponsive?

I have a 3rd gen ipod nano and when I was driving in my car, it suddenly stopped playing. One song completed, the next played for the first couple beats, but then immediatley ceased. I checked it and now the screen is grey with the apple logo in the middle. The ipod is not reponding when connected to the computer; the screen remains the same and the computer does not recognize it. What is wrong with my ipod and what do i do? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

See this.

How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or is not responding.

It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.

In some cases, the iPod might get into a state in which the battery needs to be drained before it can be reset so try these steps.

1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.

2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or the computer and reset it.

You might want to post any future questions in the 3rd gen nano forum.
