I messed up my IP settings.

I was messing around with my Macbook yesterday which is never a good thing with me and somehow managed to destroy my internet. In the network tab it says Airport is connect and says self assigned IP and may not be able to connect to the internet. I tried resetting my router and nothing seems to happen. I tried to delete the network altogether so I could start a fresh but I don't know exactly how to do that. Under the TCP/IP tab it gives addresses which don't match up to my iMac. The IPv4 address has 3 more digits and it doesn't give a router address. I tried the manual option and entered everything in. but that doesn't seem to work either.

Any ideas on how I may be able to sort this problem out?

Cheers

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Hi Lawrence

The router settings look ok. From your previous set of pictures you seem to have set up one or more new "locations". My suggestion is that you ditch these and instead use the default and pre-defined "Automatic" location. Do this by going to the Apple menu in Finder, and finding the Location menu.

Once the location is automatic, then go to Network Preferences. Set Configure to Using DHCP and set the DNS Server to 192.168.1.1 which is the address of your router, then click on Apply. If you're lucky, then it should automatically connect and you'll see the IP address under Configure change to 192.168.1.xxxx. If you're not lucky then you may have turn the Air Port off and back on again to make it see the network.

Good luck cos you're going to need it

Whoops. I was looking at the Network Preferences page for Ethernet and not the Airport when I typed the previous message. To set up for Wireless/Air Port, start Network Preferences, set up the network name on the first page, then click on Advanced. Go to TCP/IP and set Configure IPv4 to Using DHCP, then click on Renew Lease. If that doesn't get you connected then go to the next tab DNS; the DNS server should be set up to 192.168.1.1 - if it isn't then click on + to add a new address and then - to remove any others.

This should get you connected, but as a final thing go back to Network Prefs front page, and turn off the Airport and turn it back on again. You might also have to restart your router.

Good luck

Well I restarted everything, Mac and router. Even found out my router needed a upgrade so I did that and still nothing happens.

These are some screen shots of what it says under my network options.
