Installing OS X Tiger Via Target Firewire

The combo drive in my iBook has died and i want to install tiger on it. If i boot it into target disk mode plugged into my c2d imac then boot my iMac from the OS X tiger disks, do i just select the iBooks hdd when installing?

If so, how does it know its a seperate computer and install all of the correct drivers etc..

Thanks.

You can't use a Tiger version made for an Intel iMac with a Mac that has a PowerPC processor (as your iBook has). I think maybe that's what you have in mind. You need a retail Tiger disc for the iBook, which is not compatible with the Intel iMac, as Niel has said.

If you boot the iMac as the Target disk, I believe only the iMac's hard drive will show up (not its optical drive).

Not sure where all the worries about 'Intel' came from...but the answer to your question is YES- you can easily install Tiger onto your iBook as a target disk. I've done it many times. Just connect your two macs with a firewire cable, boot them up with the iBook as Target. Put the Install CD in the active iMac, follow the directions and install it on the HD of the iBook when the choice presents itself.
