Image Floating Object

Pages Gurus, Ladies and Gentlemen: Had no problem selecting objects as inline or floating with earlier Pages versions. Not so with current version. Or, I haven't figured out how to do it!

Use copious images in Pages 4-page color monthly newsletter duplexed on one sheet of 11x17 paper, but inability to select "float" images gives me fits. Take many photos with Kodak digital cam processed with Kodak Easy share. Also, use many downloaded jpeg images from web. Work around I use to make them "floaters" is to store images in iphoto>media browser>drag thumbnail of desired image to desired location on open newsletter doc which inserts it as floating object. Works fine.

But, what happened to previous simple capability to select what the user desired? Or, am I overlooking something? I'm now stymied with inability to select in Pages Inspector>Text>Object Placement either "inline" or "floating". Selection feature in previous Pages' versions is now dimmed out. So, use media browser drill which works o.k.

Do I fail to articulate and make sense? Could be! Granted, things get confusing for this old Mac Addict since day one rapidly approaching deep senility at 86 years who needs a care-taker-keeper. That's where you Pages gurus take over. Therefore, what am I doing wrong? Beyond my pay grade to figure out. I'd simply like to use "Object Placement" in Text as I did previously and be able to select either inline or floating. And not have to go thru the browser drill. Time is of the essence as I don't buy green bananas and thankfully don't wear pampers yet. Ugh!! Meanwhile, have a nice day. Thanks and regards. Ol' Jim.

Thanks Walt for your reply. Unfortunately I've been there done that with Wrap Inspector as stated in my post. No joy with '08 Pages update operating on Power Mac OS 10.4.11 or Pro Mac 10.5.4 as reflected in my profile.

Have successfully used Pages since day one. Previous versions provided the user with the option in Wrap Inspector to select either an inline or floating image. Not for me so far with '08 Pages update. No joy as the option is dimmed out.

Pages Help has drills for selecting either image but I've struck out therein as I can't highlight/select the dimmed out Wrap Inspector>"Object Placement." Even reinstalled the iwork '06 CD and upgraded to Pages '08 without success.

Got me stumped but not dead in the water as I use the browser work around as my post stated to select floating images. Probably a simple solution but beyond my pay grade to comprehend.

If available in Pages '08 I'd like to use the Wrap Inspector feature like I used in previous Pages' versions to select inline or floating images for my doc. Right now it's dimmed out and unavailable.

Hopefully Gurus Peggy, Dennis or Frank will respond and lead me out of the wilderness as they've done in the past. Respectfully with regards, Ol' Jim.

Walt...You say you are puzzled. Sorry but so am I with inability to select floating objects with '08 Pages. All I get are inline objects as previously posted.

What method do I use? Got into Pages at the beginning to produce a 3-column 4-Page Color monthly Community Newsletter duplexing on one sheet of 11x17 paper with HP CLJ 5550dn printer. Am concluding 4th year of successful production.

Devised Newsletter template using Text Box for each page. Along with text, images are inserted. Before '08 Pages no problem selecting floating images. With '08 all I get automatically are inline images with inability to select floating images as previously stated.

Repeating, in Inspector>Wrap Inspector>Object Placement with Object Causes Wrap is checked but everything below is dimmed out. All I'm looking for is the capability to highlight the two image options - "InLine" and "Floating".

Two work-arounds I use. In addition to previous posted explanation using Media and Iphoto to save images importing them to the Doc which gives me the capability to use them as floating images, I also save the Doc produced with Pages 08, in Pages 06 in Apps on the HD. With that I can select with inline or floating images.

So, why not be satisfied, a happy camper and use "06 and Media with iphoto to produce the Newsletter Doc if I want to work with floating images? Old-age senility and stubborness. Believe Pages '08 should have the same capability as '06 to process floating images. If it does I haven't figured it out.

That's my problem and was hopeful a graphic design guru herein could help. So far, no joy.

Still confused? Thanks and Regards, Ol Jim.
