Intermittent Connection Drop since the 7.3.2 update.

Setup:

AirPort Extreme 802.11n (802.11n only (5GHz))

iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 24-Inch (08)
iMac "Core 2 Extreme" 2.8 24-Inch (Al)
MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.2 15" (SR)

Everything was running smoothly when we first got the AirPort Extreme. Then the 7.3.2 update came out and we started having intermittent connection issues.

Every few minutes, there would be no Internet connection whatsoever even though the AirPort connection is still there and I can still connect to the AirPort Extreme via AirPort Utility. Obviously I first assumed it was my ISP so I called but they assured it wasn't them. Just to verify, I had plugged one of my computers into the modem directly bypassing the AirPort and it was indeed fine.

Below are some of the other possible solutions I've tried and failed:
• Revert back to previous versions of firmware. (I've tried them all)
• Reset the AirPort Extreme

Any suggestions or even just confirmation that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue would be great 🙂

iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 24-Inch (08), Mac OS X (10.5.4)

I'm having this same problem, I think, and it's extremely frustrating. I have "errors" connecting to my base station and sometimes repeating (umpteem times) turning Airport on and off on my laptop MIGHT do it, but no guarantees.

So far the only reliable solution is to reboot, which is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT.

Thanks a bunch Apple, for the Airport Extreme Update.

I just LOVE feeling like I have to research whether or not I should take a chance on using Software Update.

Just. Love. It.

Oh, my old trusty G5 has no problems whatsoever.

I am experiencing exactly the same.

On the network is a Mac Pro 2.0Ghz and a MacBook 2.0Ghz, both running fully up to date firmware and OS. Not many issues before the latest AEBSn firmware update, but things have got messed up since updating to 7.3.2. Our connection to the network is steady and never drops out. Likewise, connections between machines are steady.

Internet connection has become VERY intermittent. It drops out randomly after a short amount of time (varies between 1 & 10 mins). Simply toggling Airport off and on the machines re-establish internet connection, but doing this 30+ times a day is starting to get quite infuriating (it is our office network). When plugging the modem directly into either machine internet connections are very steady and never drop out.

As others have stated, iPhone internet connections on the network seem rock solid and never drop out.

I have tried reverting to previous firmware versions, but the problem still persists (which seems strange to me). It's as if a setting or login item has been changed or created on the 2 macs that prevents a steady internet connection from being achieved.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I am experiencing the same problem on only one of our 3 MACs. My MacBook has this problem, so badly that I can't use it. My wife's MacBook is not affected and my desktop Mac Mini is fine as it is connected via ethernet cable.
I cannot find any difference in our 2 MacBooks except hardware: Hers is 2ghz w/ 1 gb memory and a 80gb HD and mine is 2.16ghx 2gb memory, 120gb HD. Is this some clue?

My connection became intermittent this evening. It started first with my USB connected external hard drive, which is connected to my Airport Extreme, that connection became intermittent. Next my internet connection became intermittent, and then my USB printer, which is also connected to my Airport Extreme. Then I got the blinking "amber" light. I attempted to reboot the Airport Extreme. I attempted to reboot it and my modem. I attempted to change my password. I attempted a hard reboot from the back of the Airport, and nothing worked. I tried to revert to the earlier version of firmware--7.3.1, and that did not work. In a last ditch effort, I reset the Airport Extreme to the factory defaults using the Airport Extreme disk utility. This worked. Once the router was reset to the factory defaults. I was able to reinstall version 7.3.1 of the firmware and then reconfigure my network. As I write this reply, I'm on-line using my Airport Extreme. I'm printing from my USB printer over the network and I'm accessing my USB hard drive over the network.

So my advice to all of you suffering from intermittent connectivity due to 7.3.2 update, reset your Airport Extreme to the factory default and then reinstall 7.3.1 and pray that Apple's next firmware update is better than 7.3.2

Best Wishes
Tim

Just to be clear, are you experiencing lack of airport coverage/ signal strength, or just loss of internet connection?

I think most people commenting on this thread have good airport reception/ signal strength, just a lack of internet connection. This morning mine is very bad; after resetting I only get about 30secs to a minute of uptime before the connection is dropped.

I will try resetting my AEBSn back to factory settings and see how it goes. As it's only affecting some macs on networks for some people, I'm inclined to think it's something to do with an individual setting on their desktop/ laptop. My base station is out of warranty so I'm not able to call Apple to get some help or advice, but if anyone's is still under warranty please feel free to call them and see what they say...

I tried what you suggested, which is to restore the AEBS back to the default factory settings and so far it's working great! I will obviously keep an eye on it for a while longer to confirm this indeed is the long term fix. 🙂

Thank you very much rev tim!

Just as a side note, even after I restored the settings to default, it still has 7.3.2 and I didn't downgrade and it still works.

Yes, me too.

Aiport Extreme sgnal goes from full to empty for no reason. This is only on the my IMAC G5. Both Macbook and Ipod touch are fine. Also the latest Aiport Utilty makes it impossible to add Airport Expresses to the network.

I've been tearing my hair out on this one, it is so infuriating.

Anyone got any ideas how to make the pain go away?

Same issue here. Since upgrading firmware, I've had no internet connection. My airport signal is fine as usual (5 bars). I called my internet provider (Earthlink) and they couldn't help. I've also tried every trick in the book ("paper clipping it", creating new network, you name it). NOTHING WORKS. So I have to email and surf the web from work until I find a solution. BEST OF LUCk to everyone with the same frustrating pain in the azz.
