Okay how do you "pin the audio"?
Drag the music clip to the project and drop it on the video clip with which you wish to associate it. If you drop it to the background, then you cannot slide the clip to align it to an arbitrary position in the video clip. (I.e., background music always aligns itself with the beginning of the project or to a point immediately following the last "background" music file placed in your project which may not be where you want to put it.)

well I understood about half of what you said 🙂....still learning..
I will bring this to my one on one appt at apple.
I was able to move the song to start at the point I wanted but it was clunky and I'm sure there are better ways to do this then the way I did. I would love be able to fade in and out for more than the 2 seconds *I did knwo about that feature)..Sounds like in the right hands you can do a bit more that I am able to presently.

thanks for the help

Sorry! My advice is for iMovie06. I should have noticed it first. Possibly Apple should include the option to delete one's posts as well as edit.

Hi,
You can cut audio tracks the same way cut you video clips via the file menu. You can also create a fade in/out effect by using the volume levels control. Once cut you can slide it into position. Use the magnification command to get a more accurate placement. It's pretty easy to do. If you want to make a small audio loop just make a new project, drop the audio track into the timeline, edit it to what you want then export it as a movie via the file menu (no video needed). You then import the video back into your project, drop it into the timeline and go to the advanced menu and select 'Extract audio'. Once it has been extracted just drag the audio file to the desktop for future use. This will give you an AAC audio file to use in other projects.

The audio editing capabilities of iMovie are greatly underrated. I use it for making listening tests with voice recordings, movie scene audio and edited audio from other textbook CDs. With a bit of playing around it creates very professional results.
