You buy them through iTunes regardless.

Just to follow up on that one step further. Once you buy on your iPhone and you sync with your computer all App Store purchases will sync to iTunes on your computer. Buying on your computer or iPhone will net the same results so buy wherever is convenient. I just make sure I backup/sync frequently so I have a second copy somewhere.

Just to make things crystal clear: buying apps through the App Store on the phone WILL utilize iTunes gift cards that you've added to your account, therefore you can buy them anywhere.

I wasn't sure if this was made clear enough as I think multiple interpretations could still have been made of previous posts.

And no other option of payment is given at the time of purchase. If there's a gift card balance on your iTunes account it will be used FIRST before being charged to any credit card on file.

I think that makes it even more clear 😉

No, the only place to see your balance is in iTunes on your computer.

Just a warning to Canadian users, this does not work. I bought a gift card and could not use my iTunes balance to pay for the apps, I could only use a credit card when I tried to buy it.

I called apple and they said it has to do with some tax law bs... I was lucky to get a refund on my gift card though!
