iMac wont eject disk

Question

iMac wont eject disk

I am a complete noob to Macs. Im a PC technician but my iPhone has opened my eyes to the Mac world. Its not a bad as I had assumed. Anyways I have an iMac as well now and I have been trying to get it to eject the cd tray but the F12 and the eject button dont work. It wont even boot to the OS. All I get is the Finder Icon and a ? going back and forth. I have tried going through the Command,Option,O&F key hold and entering eject cd, but it tells me that "cant OPEN the EJECT device... Any suggestions are welcome and thanks in advance!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

You mention using Open Firmware (PowerPC Macs only) and a CD tray, are you using an iMac (Flat Panel) or an Intel iMac?

Try restarting and holding down the left mouse button.

No sir... I rebooted holding the left mouse key down and all i got was the grey background and then 2 mins later it goes back to flashing the finder icon and the question mark...

Well you've done all the official options. I wonder if the drive mechanism is faulty. Let's try circumnavigating the issue. Hold down the alt/option key down immediately after the start-up chime. You'll get to a boot menu, choose the hard drive. (A Mac will default to a boot disc over a hard disk.)

No still no luck. I did exactly what you said and all I got was two buttons. One was an right arrow. (No graphics just buttons) and an arrow circling around clockwise. I clicked the right arrow several times but nothing showed up. When I click the arrow circling counter clockwise it goes back to the finder icon flashing with question mark...

That implies that it can't find a good OS on either the disc or the hard disk.

Which version of OS X do you have?

Obviously these Macs are 5-7 years old. Can I ask how long you've had it, how it performed beforehand etc.
