iTunes Permissions?

Hi,

I use a Macbook and run Leopard. Just last night, I couldn't play some songs in iTunes that I purchassed from the store. I have played them before with no problem.

The error message I get says that I don't have permissions to access the music or that my permissions need to be repaired. IT is not a password problem, because I can log into my iTUnes account. THe songs are paid for.

I contacted Apple Care tech support and they suggested using the disk utility to repair the permissions. I did this, but without positive results. I still get the same error. THis is a big deal for me, because 100 songs are affected.

The only thing I've done that's different: I downloaded the latest version of iTunes last night, just before the permissions error began showing up. The apple tech didn't think the problem was related, but since disk repair didn't work I am wondering.

Anyone have advice? Any similar situations?

Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem after downloading 7.7 I tunes. After the download, my son was not able to open i tunes in his user account for the imac. After playing around with the permissions for awhile we were able to get it open; however, when he synced his iphone 100 songs were not able to be located. I tried to copy the whole library from finder under i tunes music folder and dropped it into the itunes libary, but now there are many duplicates. I tried to delete them but they didn't go into the trash. I can't find where these files are now. 7.7 has really screwed the way things use to work. Now, my son and I can't share any music that we purchase. So now we have different libraries. Let me know how it goes. I've been telling tech support that 7.7. is filled with bugs , but apple has trained them well and they won't admit to any problems.

The thing is, repairing permissions does not correct any permissions-related problems on files within users' home folders. The best place to start is to follow Diane's instructions.

I just encountered this problem with the 8.01 iTunes update. Now one user account has access to every song but other accounts are locked out of folders. Granting permissions only works on a folder by folder basis and if you try to do it to "apply to all enclosed items" it turns off permissions to any that I had previously reset. My daughter didn't have any permission at all, reset hers and then had to go through her entire library and begin to play each song in order to get them to work. That hasn't worked for my library. I have the red circle on specific folders.
