iphone 3G and a kenwood head unit.

I recently purchased both a 3G iphone and a kendwood DNX5120 with a KCA-BT200 bluetooth module. to make a long story short, the iphone doesn't really work all that well with this system. everything on my end sounds clear but the person on the other end gets distortion, static and echo. I spoke to kenwood tech support and they blame apple for the problem. so does anyone here have any idea how to fix this?

I also just had a Kenwood DNX5120 installed with a BT-200 Bluetooth module for use with my 1st gen. iPhone running 2.0 software. Although I can hear the person I am talking to crystal clear, the person I am talking to tells me I sound like I am underwater and very muffled. I took the car back to the installer today to see if the microphone needed to be readjusted or brought closer and after two hours trying to improve the audio quality they tried it with another phone instead of my iPhone. Long story short the problem cleared right up using another phone on the AT&T network. We tried an additional iPhone and had the same issue. Calling Kenwood this afternoon they told me they are well aware of the issue and stated it was an Apple problem. When pressed if they were working on a fix they simple said it is something Apple has to fix. I thought maybe the newer 3G iPhone with a plastic back would fix this problem but after reading the above post it looks like it has the same issue. If anyone knows of a firmware fix from Kenwood or Apple please add it to this post. Thank you in advance! It is disappointing to say the least! I know you can switch from the head unit to the phone and then back to the head unit according to some posts and turn off wi-fi, but I haven't tried either of these to see if it works for me.

the toggle helps quite a bit actually and yes the mic should be close. I need to have mine moved. so I officially returned my 3G phone yesterday. it is A LOT worse than the 1st gen and it became the obvious thing to do if I wanted to be able to have a conversation in my car... I would consider rebuying the 3G once this is fixed and the deal with battery life issues, but for now the 1st gen is simply a better phone.

Hey Mark,
Just wondering why 1st Gen phone in your opinion is better....better battery life obviously since it is not 3G but you found the clarity with switching the toggle back and forth better with gen 1 iPhone than with the iPhone 3G? Thanks for letting me know. I was on the fence with buying a 3G but this would be a huge factor on just sticking to my original iPhone. Thanks!

well the 3G network is kind of a non starter for battery life, but there seems to be some some issue with 3G signals that would hang on longer than they should (instead of flipping over to 2G) and the conversation quality would suffer or the call would drop. this biggest issue though is the bluetooth thing. yes the toggle is better on the 1st gen, on the 3G it still sounded like crap. I did a number of tests calling myself and speaking to my voice mail trying everything from toggle/bluetooth volume/mic placement and 3G simply sounded like crap all the way through. the 2G with the toggle, though not perfect, it is usable. the person on the other end sometimes gets an echo but not always. I hope this helps.

It is not possible to fix it. The only one can do it is APPLE. I have te same problem with a Kenwood DNX 7200, on the same KCA-BT200 unit. It helps a little bit if you make a call from the unit, not from the iPhone, but is still very bad. I will return also my iPhone, because is the worst cell phone ever had. It is only a good looking gadget. The problem is that Apple limited the Bluetooth option only to hadsfree function, to make more money on ringtones ad so on. But these option decreased the bluetooth quality. So only APPLE can fix it.

These is an iPhone bug. The KCA-BT200 is an Parrot product so is the same unit like Parrot 3000. I have it installed with an Kenwood DNX7200 navigation and so on. The only one who can solve the issue is APPLE. But it seams that they made it on purpose, so everyone must buy the Bluetootth for iPhone from them (some thing similar to iTunes policy). They think they are crafty, but on long terms, these policy it will be dangerous for the iPhone sales.

My suggestions (what I am doing), is to take an old phone with Bluetooth, take another sim card with a diferent number (Twin card service or an Team servis, depends from the mobile provider), forward the calls to these sim card (optio only when my phone is swiched off). Pair the old phone with your Bluetooth in the car and every time you enter in the car switch off your iPhone and turn on your old phone. Another subbestion is to block the caller ID on your old phone so noone will get rhe other number from you and noone will call you on it after you exit the car.

These is the only way until APPLE will fix these issue, (uncript the iPhone's Bluetooth).

I just bought the Kenwood KDC-MP638U head unit for my car, so I could connect my iPhone through USB and play music from my iPhone. When I connected my iPhone to the head unit and selected iPod, a white screen came up that said, "Device connected". I can't switch songs from my iPhone or see the album art from the song that is playing. The only way I can change the song is from the head unit itself, or by disconnecting the iPhone & changing it & then re-connecting it.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem so I can change the songs from my iPhone without disconnecting it as well as seeing the album art of the songs playing.
