Although Epson has not officially tested your printer with the Rendezvous (Airport Base Station) connection, we recommend the following steps to attempt to get it to work.
Both Epson and Apple recommend using Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.
Note:
Rendezvous printing requires a specific version of the Airport Utility in order to fully support the USB printer connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station.
Requirements for the base computer (notebook or standalone):
* an 802.11b/g wireless compliant port or third-party wireless adapter
* an Apple AirPort "Extreme" Base Station
* Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later
* Mac OS X 10.2.8 requires version 3.1.1 of the AirPort update from Apple
* Mac OS X 10.3.x requires version 3.4.1 of the AirPort update from Apple
* the AirPort Extreme Base Station requires a firmware update to version 5.4 if you are using Mac OS X 10.2 and AirPort Admin version 3.11
Please follow the steps in each section below to completely remove the files, then reinstall the driver when connected via Rendezvous:
Remove Files
1. Double-click on the Mac hard drive.
2. Double-click on the Library folder.
3. Double-click on the Printers folder.
4. Drag the Epson folder to the trash.
Note:
If you receive an access denied error message, you do not have root access. You will need to contact Apple for assistance with obtaining root access.
Download and Install
1. Go to the Epson support website (www.epson.com/support, or www.epson.ca/support from Canada).
2. Select your printer model and download the driver for your Macintosh operating system.
3. Double-click the downloaded file; a disk image will be created on your desktop.
4. Open the disk image, then double-click the installer icon to begin the installation.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
6. Restart the Macintosh when installation is complete.
Confirm USB Connectivity
1. After the computer restarts, make sure your printer is turned on and connected to the computer.
2. Open the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility (found in Applications > Utilities).
3. If your printer is listed, simply close the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility and try to print. If not, click the Add button and continue with the next step.
4. In the Printer Browser window that appears, select your printer when it appears, then click Add.
5. Close the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility and try printing from any OS X application.
Rendezvous Printer Setup
1. First, verify that you have a functional AirPort configuration. You must have full control of the AirPort Extreme Base Station through the correct version of the AirPort Admin utility in order to print through the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station in a Rendezvous session. For further assistance with this, you may need to contact Apple.
2. Connect the printer to the AirPort Extreme Base Station's USB port.
3. Turn the printer on. Ensure there are no error lights on the printer's control panel.
4. Open the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility.
5. Click the Add button.
6. Select Rendezvous from the drop-down menu in the window that appears.
7. The Print Center (or Printer Setup Utility) will perform a search, and should locate the printer attached to the AirPort Extreme Base Station within 15 seconds. The printer name and the base station it is connected to should show up in the Printer List under the Rendezvous heading. Select the printer and click Add to enable it in the Print Center.
8. Select the newly added Rendezvous printer, then click the Make Default button on the toolbar.
9. Close the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility and try printing from any OS X application. The file should spool and start to print within 15 seconds.
Note:
In a Rendezvous configuration, the printer's utilities (such as nozzle check, head cleaning, etc) are grayed out and not available. This is normal. To use the printer utilities, the printer must be connected directly to the USB port on your computer.
