iCal transition speed slow

Just within the last 2 weeks the transition speed in iCal has become very, very slow.
I am on 10.5.3(with 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon and 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM).

I have searched every where to figure out how to fix this problem because it is so slow that I
do not want to use iCal any longer - and I have ordered an iPhone.

Please help.

I was having the same sort of problem and found the answer in these discussions ( http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=7449164).
In my case the offending calendar was 8.3 MB before editing and only 52 kB afterwards! To find the offending calendar I simply hid each one in succession by clicking on the 'tick' beside each calendar and then tried to click on another date month. The offending calendar soon became evident (I have 20 calendars). I think the duplicated event came about because I have twice edited a repeating event.
Hopefully this fix will help you too.
