Can't get Airport Express to talk to my old Airport Extreme - HELP

I have a wireless network at home with an Airport Extreme being the base station. I have had to replace an Airport Express unit (as it died) with a new one to extend the network through the house. BUT I can't get the Airport Express to work.

My old Airport Extreme is the flying saucer version using 8011.g, the new Express is using 8011.n. All the computers can see the Airport Extreme but when I set up the Express as an extension of the wireless network and tell it to restart, it never starts up again and just flashes orange.

I've taken the unit back to the shop for testing & they say that it is OK. I don't know what I am doing wrong!!

I've found that the only way to do it was to make the Extreme be "create a newtork" and then the Express "join a network". I spent 4 phone calls to the Apple support desk (including their technical support), which was great as each time I was told something different.

At this stage this method is working, but the range of the old 802.11g network was better than the 802.11g Extreme plus 802.11n Express.

Try this. I hope it works!!
