iTunes shows 1 app update available, none found

In iTunes, it has a 1 next to Applications on the left column, showing that there is 1 update available. When I goto the Applications screen, it also says '1 Update Available' in the lower right corner.

However, when I click on the link, it says my account has no updates available.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this erroneous update?

That's really funny. I just experienced the same thing yesterday. iTunes told me I had 3 updates. I clicked 'Download All Updates' (or something like that). Meanwhile on my iPhone it told me I had 1 update for one of the same Apps. After syncing the new Apps over, the iPhone continued to tell me I had 1 update.

I then checked the three Apps I just updated on iTunes after syncing. And one of them was still the older version (namely UrbanSpoon v1.0). iTunes didn't think it needed to download the new version v1.0.1 that it previously said was available.

So on the iPhone I downloaded the update and sync'd again. Now both show v1.0.1.

Meanwhile if I quit iTunes and launch it again. I still have the notice that 1 update is available and when I click through it says 'nothing to update'.

shrug

This along with my MobileMe woes has got to be the worst roll out ever... and I've been an Apple fan for over 20 years now.

Yep, I've had the exact same problem:

It happened again this morning. Looking at newly posted apps in the store, I noticed Exposure had been updated. I went into my iTunes application folder and clicked the button to check for updates. It found three updates, but not Exposure. When you look at the app pages for these "updated" apps, some of them still show v1.0. But I let it download the updates anyway.

Version numbers between the app store page and using Get Info in iTunes don't match. For example, my iTunes app page shows v1.3 for Dizzy Bee, but when I look on the app store page it still shows v1.0.

And then iTunes was still insisting I had one update, although it couldn't find one.

After I updated the apps and synced, my phone still said I had an update, but it was for an app that didn't show up in the iTunes update page on my iMac.

And so on...

The saga continues this morning...

Three of my apps had updates in the app store today: FileMagnet, New York Times, and My Lists.

iTunes only found the update for My Lists, which I downloaded and synced back to my phone. My phone then found the updates for the other two apps, which I had to download on the phone and sync back to iTunes.

Something fishy is going on here. Either the iTunes and the phone are using two different methods to identify updates, or else the various back-end databases that track app version numbers are not being updated at the same time after app updates are posted in the store. Or perhaps this has something to do with the app version numbers not being consistent between Get Info in iTunes and what is shown in the app store.

Ok it's only getting worse. On my iPhone the AppStore claims all files are up to date. In iTunes I still have the "1" stuck next to Applications on the sidebar. If I click to Update, it shows 10 apps need updating? Ok I shrug and say 'Update All'. After downloading all 10 Apps, it still claims I have to update the same 10 Apps?

Ok Apple you sent out 7.7.1, but I'm not sure what it fixed.

Just an FYI, there has been some discussion / speculation that the iPhone is buggier when using the Appstore on the phone to download or update Apps.

I have experienced this twice. After updating Apps directly on the phone, the installation takes ages, and eventually ends up requiring a reboot.
Not to mention the phone is then generally unstable.

I have just done a RESTORE, and am now NOT using the phone Appstore.
I'll be doing ALL updates via iTunes (even though it is a little flakey with its suggested App updates).
I have the opposite case of that reported here. It says i have like 3 Apps... but when i click to Update... shows me over 32 Apps to be updated.
I know for a fact that this is NOT true.

Anyway, hang in there guys / gals.

I'm having many of the same issues, but the oddest one to me is that the applications tab at the left of itunes screen has a "1" next to it, but as far as I can tell there is no way to identify which app the update relates to. If I right click on "applications," all of my downloaded apps show up. The only step you can do then is hit "download free updates" and then it appears to update all of the apps, even though supposedly there is only one new app update. Does anyone know how to identify the app that Itunes says (by showing "1" next to apps) needs to be updated?

iTunes shows 1 app update available, none found
