Strange vertical stripes - Continued

was this problem fixed with the new update?

I experienced this on April 22, 2009. It has happened only once in my case, but it was alarming at the time. In my case I either put the computer to sleep or restarted it, and the display problem disappeared. But I wonder if it might happen again, or whether I should get a preemptive repair.

I had a rather colorful wallpaper at the time, but the stage light effect is clearly visible, and is not part of the wallpaper design.

I have just experienced this problem for the first time on my 14 month old Early 2008 Macbook Pro 2.4

shift-control-eject thing fixed it right away...it happened when I unplugged and went on battery.

Is this the NVidia issue?

I had the screen replaced on my Macbook Pro last week and when I got home with it within hours it was displaying the vertical stripes, +on a brand new screen+. Nothing I do resolves it, the CTRL SHIFTEJECT key combo doesn't clear it and a restart will clear it only for it to return in it's own time.

I take it the only fix is a screen replacement?

This has just happened to me for the first time; Ctrl-Shift-Eject seems to have solved it for now. My MBP is 1 year and 1 month old. Great!

I just got back from vacation and my macbook pro is now showing the black stripes at the bottom which everyone has been talking about. Unfortunately, they don't go away using any of the tips provided in the first or the second thread. You would think it was an electrical connection that isn't working properly.

I think we have apple care on it, so we're taking it in. Bummer.

The vertical bars happened to me a few times -- but only temporarily. One thing I've noticed about it is that it seems to occur mostly when my computer is very HOT. (That might be partly why it seems to be associated with battery use too.) I've found that turning it off, putting it to sleep, etc -- generally things that allow it to cool down, seem to help resolve the problem. Or maybe it's just a coincidence -- but it's another thing to try.
Have others who've run into this problem noticed whether their machines were hot at the time?

About a month after I bought my early 2008 MBP (2.4ghz) the Strange Vertical Stripes happened. The room was extremely hot and humid. I think I was running on battery. Shutting down and restarting fixed it. It didn't happen again until April 2009. The room temperature was about 68 degrees. I was on battery power (it was pretty low). No external monitor was attached. Printer cable (USB) and scanner cable (firewire) were attached. I did the shift-control-eject thing and it went away.

I`ve had my display replaced for this exact problem. Six months since then, the stripes apear again. The problem i have now is that the machine its not in warranty.

I had the exact same problem too. I notice it would happen frequently when I unplugged the power cord from the computer. I took the MacBookpro to the repair shop and they change the motherboard to fix it. It didn't do it, then they change the display screen, that didn't work either. Now they're saying the I/O board is causing the screen problem. So if you get it fix under warranty do it quick, because those repairs are over 3 months. And even if the problem started on warranty, by the time they figure out the I/O board it's over and you have to pay. Not talking about the downtime and multiple trips to the shop.

I believe that generation of computer wasn't quite ready for commercialization, but they needed the money.... and people are dumb.

My computer also overheat and the touch pad is shabby, what a great machine.....

One would be a lot better off buying a new cheap machine every 6 months that being stuck with a macbookpro for years...

a friend is having this problem, do we know that it's a problem with the cabling? what's apple's response?

I have a permanent single fine blue line vertically down my screen that appeared 13 months after purchase (MBP 4,1 purchased refurbished September 2008).

I've attempted the control-shift-eject with no effect. VLC also delivers a blank screen 3-4 x during a movie episode since the blue line appeared, so I'm guessing that its the NVIDA issue.

I bought the computer from Apple Store NZ and now live in Saudi Arabia so I have no idea about how to go about getting it fixed or viewed for the NVIDA fault which Apple claim they'll fix...

found out the problem is in the lcd or inverter when i switches top half from other macbook pro 2.4 3.1 the lines were gone iam almost 90% that it might be inverter problem

I think you'd find 68 degrees well outside the operating temperature of the MBP anyway (Operating temperature: 10° to 35° C)
